Have you used the app, Waze?

For those of you who don’t know what Waze is, it’s an app on your phone you’re not supposed to be looking at when you drive.

And what does Waze exactly do?

It gives you the shortest distance during traffic and the best route you can take.

That’s why they call it Waze (get it?).

And Waze also is like playing Frogger.

Remember that game?

Whenever you use Waze, there is a 93% chance they’re going to put you through a four-way intersection. Well, it’s actually not a four-way intersection. You would think they would do that for safety reasons. But maybe they’ll put you through a two-way intersection, crossing a busy road.

The other day, I used Waze and at 4:30 in the afternoon on a Thursday, they wanted me to cross Venice Boulevard,  so I decided to make a right-hand turn.

And Waze recalculated and yelled at me like they always do.

Then they had me me cross another street, this time through four lanes of rush hour traffic. You’ve got to time it absolutely perfectly to make this maneuver work.

It’s interesting though, because sometimes when you’re in one of these intersections, you’ll see a fellow Wazer cross the street.

Oh, you’ll know a Wazer all the time, because they’ve got the same look of fear in their eyes as you do. And they’re also thinking to their selves, am I really going to be able to cross this intersection?

So we both kind of have no directional blinker on, we’ll both assume we’re going straight, but then in L.A., you never can assume you’re going straight at all because most people don’t even signal anyway, which makes Waze in Los Angeles even scarier than ever before, because you might see somebody with no directional blinker on, and as you scuttle across the intersection as fast as you can to make it, they’re actually making a left.

So it literally is like playing Frogger.

And it’s funny too — you’ll see other people following Waze. You’ll be going down random streets, and you can almost guess the direction someone is going because you know they are following a Waze route as well.

And there’s one more thing we can talk about…

Waze has us looking down at our phones the whole time, which by the way, is something we’re not supposed to be doing during any time we’re driving. But unless you’ve got Apple car play that mimics the screen, sometimes if you don’t plug Waze in and the Bluetooth isn’t working properly at that second, you will miss the turn.

Plus, the fun thing about Waze is you need to know exact distances in feet, which isn’t turned on, which means that you have to start looking for street signs, and there are some places where street signs are not well marked.

Waze. It’s the ultimate game of Frogger, being played by adults all over the world. Download it now.

Because when you download it now, you’ll be able to play Waze, and it’s just so much fun. Enjoy yourself.
