read-emotionsI have an uncanny knack for reading people. So what do I do? What’s my secret? Simple. I’m not afraid to look them in their eyes, at all.

When I see somebody for the very, very first time, I look directly in their eyes, because their eyes are the windows to their soul. I can see whether they’re happy, whether they’re sad, whether they’re frustrated, whether they’re mad.

It’s easy to see that, because you’ve seen that emotion so many times. You’ve seen people happy, you’ve seen people sad. You know what somebody’s like when they’re hiding something. It’s all in their eyes.

So I look into their eyes and I could see where they’re at. Are they warm, are they kind, are they nice, are they crazy? We all know what crazy eyes look like.

I read people because I read their eyes. And then I look at their facial expressions. Do they look happy, do they look sad? Do they look elated, do they look miserable, do they look tense?

I take a look at their facial expression, and I read that. Then I literally read their body language. Are their arms folded and crossed? Do they look tense, do they look open, do they look pissed off, do they look like they’re in a hurry? Which way are their feet angling towards? Which way are their legs looking? I read everything from head to toe. And I do this in a matter of three seconds.

Before I even talk to somebody I’ve read what they’re all about, through their body language, through their eyes, through their facial expressions. Then I know how to talk to them. I know the tone of voice that I need to take.

If they’re all angst and full of energy, my voice has to be full of energy because I have to get their attention.

If they look like they’re a little bit passive, or a little sad, I’ve got to come with a little more concern in my voice.

If they look content and happy, I have to come with a smile at them, and say, “You look so happy today.”

I’m just reading people. How did I become good at that? I went out and I read people. I walked around and I didn’t want anything from anybody. I just walked around New York City and I read people. I learned how to do it. I walked around and I learned how to read them.

I learned what their body language was saying. I learned what their facial expression was saying. That’s what I did. I sat at cafes all day long, and people watched. Watched people react to one another.

Reading people is simple, and easy. You just have to put the time in to read them. Then they become one of the greatest books you’ve ever read.
