A few days back I talked about Amanda Bynes and her mad social media ramblings. Remember, how I told you how dangerous it was to put your whole dating history on Facebook and Twitter?

What it does it mean when a woman posts her relationship status constantly?

Meaning of Relationship Status They’re always changing it from “single”, to “in a relationship”, to “it’s complicated.”

How many women do you know that you’ve been looking at on Facebook — and admit it guys, I know that you check out pictures, I know that you check out women that are friends of friends…

Do they want attention or are they looking for love?

Most the time they’re attention seeking. When a woman just says it’s complicated, she’s basically telling you that she’s full of drama. Her life is complicated. She enjoys the complication and she wants other people to engage her in that complicated talk.

She loves to have a life that’s filled with complications, anxiety. She wants you to engage her because she desires you to be the one to help her out or talk about more drama with her.

I believe life should be personal. You should never really tell the world that you’re in a relationship. A relationship is based on the love between two people, no reason to post things in Facebook.

Likewise, when you see a woman who is single, then all of a sudden in a relationship a week later and then single again two weeks later — she’s telling you that she dates, falls in love instantly, is very clingy, and the guy gets sick of her. So the women you’re cyberstalking on Facebook– actually take a lot more notice of their relationship status.

They tell you a lot about who they are, and what they’re really looking for!

"I believe life should be personal. You should never really tell the world that you’re in a relationship. A relationship is based on the love between two people" EXACTLY! To me, if someone posts their private life on facebook, it means they are a gossiper and will blab about me to everyone. It means they are externally oriented and give a hoot about what others think. And it makes me suspect they are pursuing a relationship for social proof instead of for its own sake. I've said before that I strongly believe a relationship is between exactly two people. So if I really like someone, I will want to meet her one on one and NOT introduce her to my friends or hang out with her friends. Problem is it's hard to earn trust that way - people often mistake privacy for being closed off, or ashamed, or having something to hide, rather than creating intimacy. I think I am in the minority again with my beliefs though. Many women have an explicit friends first policy. Or maybe it's just the women I hang out with. Or maybe it's just another one of those bullshit delusions women have, like when they say they want a smart and funny guy who treats them well. What do you think?

Technoboy, Melissa is absolutely right about this. NOT introducing her to your friends is just about the worst thing you can do. Because it shows her that you are too ashamed of her, and that she is probably not good enough to let your friends think she is with you. There is only one type of guy who doesn't introduce a girl to his friends: a serial killer. And there is only one type of woman you don't want to introduce to your friends: a hooker !

It shows her that you are weird. Period. 'Too special to be shared?' Creepy. If a man said that to me and he wasn't referring to sex acts or pet names, I would run screaming for the hills. Or...I would think he was embarrassed about something. Me, his friends, his ability to interact with my friends. Didn't peg you for this type. Huh.

Techno- I think that's bunk and if I were in a relationship with you and you didn't introduce me to your friends and didn't want to meet mine, I would think you were a friend-less, odd, creepy, introvert. Part of the fun of being in a relationship is taking your significant other out to parties, events with friends, seeing them in social settings, showing them off a bit...knowing you get to go home together. Getting to know you better by watching you interact with others. John- my relationship status says 'divorced'. I have never changed it. And it's true. I am divorced and dating no one. I am NOT the only one. All my friends are single. MEN are the ones who are never, ever single. Not really. Most decent men have SOME kind of action going on, even if it's just some kind of friends with benes situation. Listen to Patrice O'Neil's last album 'Mr. P'....download it. I can see you like to stereotype people based on certain criteria without knowing them. I'm an introvert but I've met many amazing other friendless ones that are just shy but are the kindest most deep and amazingly talented folks I've met. Maybe that's why u can't find the right guy you are to quick to judge instead of doing what MLK preached

Yep, looks like I am right about having unusual beliefs again. I'm in good company though. Wygant cautions against the friendly hangout and goes straight for the date. It's about being clear about your intentions. Plus being stuck in the friend zone with someone you want to date really sucks! And me, I have a big friend zone problem and get labeled as 'sweet', 'nice', or 'puppy' within five minutes of meeting a woman, so ... ( she used the term 'sweet, overgrown puppy' instead of 'playful puppy', FYI. Funny thing to say to a guy who is 190lb of man-muscle don't you think ) Let's see: Introvert? Check. An unusually outgoing and adventurous introvert though. Odd? Double check. I prefer the term eccentric tho. Or outside of the box. Or extraordinary. Creepy? That term is too vague to mean anything to me, so I will leave that label up to you. I doubt it though - I've never been labeled that. After 'nice' and 'sweet' (ugh!!), my most common labels are 'smart', 'cocky', 'fun', and 'funny', and I'm actually proud of those. Friend-less? I have more guyfriends and nerdfriends than I can even handle. And don't you worry - you will see plenty of interacting with other people when we are out: On my river tubing trip, I had some good laughs with the cashier lady. She wanted my birthdate + address for the liability waiver, so I say 'so you're going to get me a birthday present AND deliver it to my door, are you?'. She said yes and I say 'I think you're lying to me. I think you're really planning on selling my contact info and sending me junk mail'. I also offered a beer to the bus driver after the day was over (he had asked for one). On a nature trip, I will stop random strangers to take pictures of us so we have something to remember each other by. At a dance, I will probably play matchmaker, giving you tips on how to get men to dance with you and tapping into my network to rescue you when you are left stranded. Dancing is my main thing now, so I will probably know a few people at each event we go to. Overall though it looks like you are right about most women freaking out if you skip the friend zone and go straight for a one on one outing.

Facebook is a commercial of people's lives and in some cases not too be taken seriously...When my niece first started using facebook and then became a freshmen in high school, her status to "in a relationship" on the third day of school...lol After that, she changed every month...lol A cousin of mine, a little younger, it was every week...lol But something happened...They stopped changing their status, my niece was still dating but she had single on facebook...My cousin cooled it too till she got into high school, and just recently changed it. So when I see grown women changing their status like that, I think of high school kids...lol

No matter what women put in their profile, a woman's real relationship status is either "Married", "in a relationship", or "it's complicated". Women are NEVER "truly" single. Never. Never ever. It just doesn't happen. (All the good ones are taken anyway.)

There should be another relationship status: "don't care". As in: too busy to deal with a woman / man in my life. It's not worth it - I have more rewarding and useful things to do. I think a lot of women have that status. In my area at least. Me, I've had that relationship status for a long time, snapped out of it last year, but am now getting back into it in favor of upgrading my career + lifestyle.

Well, the 'looks' discussion never seems to die. It really is a paradox. I know a couple of guys I would consider good looking, but they are soooooo boring, it makes pretty much everybody run for the hills. So, looks are attractive for about two seconds, after that comes your personality. Only looks get you absolutely nowhere. But what if you are ugly, but have a great personality ? I think in the end it comes down to the energy you exude. Do people like to be around you ? Are people inspired by you ? I think unless you look like the Elephant Man, few people are really ugly. What makes a man really really attractive is drive and ambition. That is something you have, usually from very early on. It translates into a lot of good things, and women usually like that, especially wealth and fame.

A lot of guys buy into that, spend unspeakable hours on their education + career, throw themselves at their job to improve their status, then find out that they got seriously ripped off because they have no skills dealing with women, are lonely as hell, and see their local waiters + bartenders + yoga instructors + poolboys etc run off with all the women. Not me. Me, I throw myself at my work because I actually care about my craft. Same end result though. OK, so given the choice between two otherwise equal guys, a woman will pick the ambitious one over the slacker. BUT given the choice between an ambitious guy who is 'creepy' or awkward vs a smooth guy who competes with illegal immigrants and changes jobs like a celebrity changes girlfriends, the smooth guy wins every time. Women are primarily attracted to men who are skilled at creating attraction in women. Period.

Techo, I know you are a good guy. I also assume that you are not that old yet. I am...well, I guess I am older than you. I am 46. I have been around for a while, and I am not the type who sits buried behind books all day long. I have never ever seen a poolboy or a bartender run off with a classy woman. It happens only in the movies. Women since the stone age go for the guy with the most resources. It was, is, and always will be a matter of survival. Resources do not necessarily have to be money - good social and networking skills can be equally important. But even these skills usually translate into the same thing: money. And that is really pretty much the only thing that matters in this world anyway. Remember what Tony Montana said in 'Scarface': "In this country, you gotta make the money first. Then when you get the money, you get the power. Then when you get the power, then you get the women."

This 'looks' discussion is going to make me scream. Most men over 35 don't give a F what they look like yet still expect to get laid. Most women are still buying skin care, getting highlights, doing yoga, using self tanner, getting Botox...the list goes on. Men don't give a shit because....wait for it....they don't have to!! They can be fat and funny, bald and powerful, short and a sweetheart. They can be short, bald and fat...but A woman will love a man for a personality. Gads! It's true! Ask yourselves...when was the last time DW wrote a blog post about 'Get the Funniest Fat Girl in the Room'. When was the last time you thought to yourself, 'Man, she's pretty chunky and kinda ugly, but there's just something about the power she exudes...it's hot' If anyone here admits that they have a total crush on Hilary Clinton or Oprah, I will give you my first born. You know how many women I know were legitimately hot for Tony Soprano? Or the King of Queens? So...knock it off. Work on your personality and charm, expand your social circle and you will get a chick. The End.

Yes, Hans, I am still young, though not as young as you would think based on my screen name + writing style... The two people I know who do best with women are both waiters. I wouldn't use the word 'classy' to describe their women, but they do attract women who are great both inside and out and I'm jealous. 'fun', 'cool', 'adventurous' women - not the princessy or neurotic or self absorbed kind like most young hotties. Which works for me, because I don't give a damn about class, or who has it and who doesn't, or who has power and social status and who doesn't. I just want someone who is fun to spend time with. I tend to be around people in technology, research, finance, or related fields ($$). I don't envy their women, or their lack thereof. It's not about material wealth I think, it's about SOCIAL wealth. The two used to be interconnected, but nowadays they are often at odds with each other. A waiter usually has more social capital than a financial analyst or a microchip designer. Disclaimer: those two guys I know are definitely young, more so than me, and so are their women. I think young women + mature women is a different game entirely. And me, I need to transition away from the young game - I'm not THAT young anymore, and young women are generally impossible to deal with anyway.

Technoboy, Your not getting along with women whom your attracted to so you entertained a 'theory' which your not compatible with that it would be easier for you if women were men? lol It sounds like to me, your making something simple...complex! I have a friend who single and works for a very large company, she is very beautiful, guys ask for her number all the time. Sounds like she is in girl heaven right? Wrong! Here is an example, there is this guys she knows, who asked for her number after he talked mostly about himself...lol...She gets a lot of this from guys. It's called being a salesman rather than yourself. She told him, she wasn't that type of girl. We are not talking about sex, but what she meant by that was, and she told me this about why she didn't want to give her number to that guy..."get to know me first and then ask for my number!" She agreed to call him but blocked her number. Check this out, they talked for over an hour on the phone and she was telling me, he talked non-stop about himself, how trusting he was and how he doesn't cheat on women while not asking one single question about her! Do you think a fat girl would be attracted to a guy who talks non-stop about himself while showing no interest in her? No! She might view the dude as eye candy, but that attraction only goes so far and then fades. If this guy would have spent some time getting to know her, rather than talking non-stop about himself, she would have given her number to him! It's that simple, dude! Connection with a beautiful woman is no different than with a girl whom your not attracted to. It's you who put undo pressure on yourself, beautiful women get nervous too, it turns them on that they can qualify themselves to you! Now get out there and get to know them! :)

Late breaking news. I just got an interesting perspective on the nice guy topic the made my day: "Sweet doesn't mean weak, I promise. Women are probably just surprised that you are a nice guy despite your intimidating exterior (you don't exactly look like you'd lose a fistfight)." This would be from one of the world's better examples of Brainy Ballsy Business Chick, too. OK, I should stop and shut up now. For the time being.

Actually their are reasons that are more than you have posted here. Being a single female can be very different than for a male on fb. My relationship status has actually said nothing for several years I've been on fb. Stating your in a relationship is just that. Meaning I'm not interested in other men, it shows commitment. As far as a relationship being between two people you wrote, I believe life should be personal. You should never really tell the world that you’re in a relationship. A relationship is based on the love between two people, no reason to post things in Facebook." So people wear rings stating engagement or marrige. This shows the world a committed relationship... I have been in a committed relationship for several months I might now change my relationship to "in a relationship with..." it's an old fashioned I suppose, men would see the relationship status, help with unwanted Sexual messages from men.
