I’m writing this sitting at JFK, eating a non-organic egg and cheese omelette with beans.

I don’t even do well with cheese, nor do I do well with eggs. But then again, I had to get up at 5:30 in the morning and I finally fell asleep around 2:30. With 3 hours of sleep, you’ll eat anything.

And considering the fact that I’m getting on a six hour flight, my belly needs to be full, even though at this time in the morning and with such little sleep, the last thing my body needs or desires is food. Go figure.

Anyway, as I was getting my omelette from the European Cafe in terminal 7 at JFK, I realized something…

I realized the secret to happiness.

No, the secret to happiness is definitely not eating un-organic food or having cheese in the morning.

The secret to happiness is something I’ve been doing unconsciously for so long.

You want to know what it is?

Good, I’m glad you asked.

It’s giving love and making people feel wonderful and expecting nothing back.

I look at so many people so disconnected all of the time, staring at their little devices as they’re waiting in line while another human being is either:

a) Making them an omelette.

b) Taking their money.

Not even acknowledging each other… yet the same people who are staring at their phones are consistently wondering why nobody’s really attracted to them or why they can’t meet somebody.

They think they’re friendly. They think they’re this, they think they’re that, but in reality they’re not giving love.

They’re not giving love on a daily basis.

You see, the secret to happiness is to give happiness back to others.

I talk about the value of giving without expectations a lot, and so do a lot of other coaches and gurus. It’s in Deepak Chopra’s 7 Laws of Spiritual Success, and in a lot of my own programs such as Own the Room.

And it really is the key to success and so many other things, but what dawned on me is that it’s also the key to what we all desperately need and desire: happiness.

Yet, as I was waiting in line with nobody in front of me and nobody behind me at the ungodly hour of 6:50 in the morning on a Tuesday, I started talking to the woman who’s taking my credit card.

She was a fun, nice woman.

We talked about the time we both had to get up. She asked me what time I got up and she couldn’t believe the lack of sleep or the minimum amount of sleep I just had.

She informed me all about her life and how she gets up every day at 3:30. I figured out that she gets off work at 2:00.

We talked, we communicated, and we smiled at one another.

Did I feel like having a conversation at this ridiculous hour in the morning, which I don’t function well at? No.

But the key to happiness is to give happiness.

You give what you want to people. No matter where you are. No matter where you’re at. If you continually just give something to other people, people will give it back to you.

When I was in line at the security, I went through and I got padded down because I had my medallion on.

The guy looks at me as he’s padding my back down, and he says you can enjoy this if you want.

And I started laughing.

I then listened to him make other people’s day. Make the most of a job that he probably doesn’t get paid enough at with his great personality, and he probably gets bored at times.

But he’s making the most of it. Bringing happiness and joy to everybody who went through the security line at no matter what time of day it was.

Bringing happiness and joy into your life is giving it to others.

That’s the secret to happiness in all aspects of your life. Too many people don’t give joy or happiness to others because they expect it, or they feel sorry for their situation.

But me? I’m all about bringing happiness and joy because I get it in all aspects of my life, because I give it unconditionally where ever I go.

Try it for a week.

And see how your life changes.

And commit to bringing joy and happiness to others.
