I was doing some research today on a couple of topics that I thought would be interesting to share with all of you, given that we’ve all probably eaten twice our weight in calories and saturated fat yesterday…

And, I stumbled across an article about where fat goes when you lose weight.

I was amazed, and I read.

Not that I need to lose any weight at all, but it was fascinating to me of where fat goes.

So let’s talk about the difference between fat loss and weight loss, and reveal the truth about what each means and how it really impacts your life.

Weight Loss vs. Fat Loss

Weight loss is an overall decrease in the number on the scale. This doesn’t necessarily have to be from fat loss, though. It could be from water loss, muscle loss, fat loss, or even getting a crazy ridiculous new outfit.

But, the difference here is that fat loss is the amount of body fat we actually lose, and that’s done when the body burns off more calories than it consumes in any given day.

So think about it: if you take in 1,500 calories, and you’re losing 1,800 calories, you’re minus 300 calories that day.

To lose fat you literally need to rev up your metabolism with lots of exercise, great nutrition. But, you need fat in order to live.

So wait a second, what do you do? How do you lose fat? How do you gain fat? How do you not gain fat to be fat? And how do you become skinny again?

Oh my god it sounds crazy right?

Well, here’s what you need to know…

Fat doesn’t make you “fat.”

It actually helps you burn fat.

See, fat is this delivery system for your hormones, and it’s essential for brain function and muscle growth.

But please, don’t get all excited and don’t start robbing your children’s Halloween candy, because we’re talking about healthy fats here. We’re not talking about sugary fats, which so many Americans are addicted to, or saturated fats, which so many Americans are also addicted to.

We’re talking about good old healthy fats, like avocado.

Nuts.

Nut butter.

Oils.

Good oils for you. Olive oil. Coconut oil.

We’re talking about healthy fats that are delivered into your body.

And you need to realize that, because there’s no way in the world you’re ever going to cut all of the fat out of your life. You need it.

But where does fat actually go?

Well, according to what I read, the majority of fat is breathed out as carbon dioxide. You’re actually breathing fat out of your body.

Every time you exhale, you’re losing weight. You’re actually puffing fat out of your body, almost like a dragon is blowing fire out of their body.

I found that amazing.

The fat doesn’t just leave your body. If you lose 30 pounds, most of it, over 80% of it, is going to be exhaled by the lungs and well the remainder will be excreted via urine.

That’s right: you are peeing your fat out.

Dumping your fat out.

You’ll sweat.

So, how important is breathing when it comes to fat loss? I can’t answer that, but I know that, the more water you drink when you’re losing weight, you’ll flush your body a lot more. And the more sweat you have, the more toxins you’ll expel from your body.

The bottom line is, when you start losing weight, you’re actually breathing it out.

Imagine that: walking around all day long breathing fat out of your body, leaving it many places. Start looking around and realize you just left some fat here or there.

And when do we do so much breathing?

When we sleep.

So imagine that. You can actually lose weight by just sleeping.

It’s all about living a healthy lifestyle, folks. And that’s exercise, diet, sleep, and water. All of it.

So hopefully this motivates you, especially if you’re looking to shed those extra pounds you put on yesterday 😉
