I’m going to explain right now why you — that’s right, YOU— are a drug addict.

First off, how does that feel?

How does it feel to be accused of being a drug addict?

I’m sure you don’t even think you’re a drug addict.

The things about the drug that you abuse most likely on a daily basis.

A drug that you literally wake up and say to yourself, I need this drug.

I’ve got a busy day.

I need to be more focused.

I’ve got a lot of work to do today. I need to perk up.

Without this drug, you think your days are never going to be the same.

If you haven’t figured out what drug it is now, it’s…

CAFFEINE.

Caffeine is a drug.

How many wake up in the morning and say, I really need a cup of coffee? How many of you wake up and put coffee in your stomach before anything else, which by the way is one of the most unhealthy things to do.

Your body wakes up dehydrated unless you have been attached to an intravenous tube all night long or drank a lot of water throughout the night. Your body is craving water, craving hydration.

The first thing when you work out is to really have 12 ounces of water to give your body a chance to, well, wake up naturally.

The cavemen, for all of you who are on the paleo diet, didn’t just wake up and plug themselves into a coffee-maker. They went out and probably drank from a bubbling creek, had water.

I don’t drink coffee. I don’t understand it.

I don’t understand the need to have to wake up and be stimulated.

I don’t get it. And honestly, here’s what I really think:

It’s all psychological.

I truly believe that if you think you need coffee to wake up, you’re telling yourself a coffee story.

You’re telling yourself a story that you need something.

Which means that you’re not allowing your mind to be as powerful as you want it to be.

I had a sensitive stomach, so coffee always gave me the runs. Yeah, that’s right. If we’re going to talk honestly, I’m going to talk honesty back.

So, I never got into the coffee story when everybody else was playing adults in college, and they were having a cup of coffee before class getting addicted to the adult habit. I couldn’t do it. I was still eating my Frosted Flakes and my sugar snacks.

That sugar high was plenty for me.

But the bottom line really truly is that coffee is a drug. Some of you need two to three cups. One when you wake up so you can get the kids out the door. One on the way to work in the car. And then, another one when you get to work.

You’re basically flying through the morning. You think you’re productive, but in reality, it’s just false sense of production. See, you have not given your brain the power to wake up on its own. You see, a brain is very stimulated. I wake up, and I’m stimulated by my life, so I don’t need a false stimulation to get me motivated.

In fact, I wake up motivated because I’m alive.

I think that’s enough motivation to get me going.

I’m healthy.

I’ve got people to talk to, which is motivating enough. I’ve got things I got to work on, which is stimulating enough.

I just feel that we are a drug-addicted society. How many of you are on ADD pills because you’ve been told you have trouble concentrating.

Well, the doctor must be right.

That doctor that told you, he must be right. You know, he wears a white coat. He must be right about you having trouble concentrating . Folks, it’s all a bunch of bullshit. It’s all stories that you’ve been telling yourself. Stories of addiction, stories of how you need things, stories of if life wouldn’t be the same if you didn’t do it. It’s all a bunch of crap.

From the ADD drugs to the caffeine, it’s all bullshit.

It really is.

I’ve got attention deficit disorder by far. If I don’t like something, I can’t concentrate. If I like something, I laser focus. Would I take a pill if I can focus in on things I don’t want to concentrate on? No. Because that’s what other people have jobs to do. So, I hire other people to do things I don’t like.

Take a look at your drug addictions and ask yourself, do I have the mental capacity to stimulate my own mind?

Ask yourself that. The answer is always going to be yes, unless you want to create a whole other story.
