Do you ever feel the need to be perfect?

Do you ever feel stuck where you are? You want to make changes so badly, but you just can’t pull the trigger?

You feel like if you make a change it could be really wrong, and you don’t want anything bad to happen.

I’m going to share with you how I screwed up and three ways we can all do better, even when we don’t know shit.

  1. Don’t Be Afraid To Jump In

I went to a kid’s birthday party on Saturday.

I was with my daughter and her mom.

As we drove around the neighborhood I realized, I don’t know shit. This neighborhood, tucked away in West LA, was a neighborhood full of old people about 10 years ago.

Houses were nothing, maybe $300,000. Nobody wanted to live in this neighborhood, they all wanted to be in Santa Monica or Venice.

But it bordered Venice and Santa Monica. I didn’t know shit. So I didn’t buy a house. And as I was walking down the street and I watched all the houses being renovated, and I looked at the old trees and wide streets, I realized, my god, I don’t know shit.

I over thought everything. So now, instead of owning one of these houses for $300,000, I would have to go and buy a dinky little house for $1m in this neighborhood that was literally $700,000 less just 10 years ago.

I don’t know shit.

  1. Put Yourself Out There

I had lunch the other day with some friends of mine. They both looked at me and said, you know, I really don’t want to put myself out there again because I don’t want to be hurt.

I said, if you don’t put yourself out there, you’ll never find love.

Getting hurt is actually something you should welcome, because every single day, we’re trying to be perfect. We’re trying to make everything work perfectly.

The reality is, we don’t know shit.

When you first meet somebody it’s no different than buying a house. You don’t know shit. You don’t know what’s going to happen. You don’t know if the housing market is going to be good, and you don’t know if they’re going to be someone in your life for a long time.  questions

You don’t know if the person is going to love you back or not, but all you can do is dive right in.

  1. Take A Risk

In everything we do, we don’t know shit.

We’re constantly looking for perfection. We’re looking for things to be right. We’re constantly looking for the right time, the right thing to say, the right move.

In reality, the people who succeed in life just jump right in and don’t know shit.

Don’t be afraid to fail.

Don’t be afraid to jump in.

Don’t be afraid to talk to somebody. Don’t be afraid to communicate. Don’t be afraid to try something different. Don’t be afraid to buy a house in a shitty neighborhood that’s bordering a beautiful neighborhood.

Don’t be afraid of anything.

As I drive around Los Angeles right now, I realize I don’t know shit.

I over thought everything. I was calculated. I waited for the perfect time to get into the real estate market and the perfect time for this neighborhood to change.

There is no perfect time in life.

In reality, we don’t know shit.

Take a risk. Take a risk today. Take a risk tomorrow. Do something. Don’t be so afraid of everything you do, because it will never be perfection.

It will never be the perfect time. It will never be the perfect moment. It will never be the perfect person.

All we can do is jump into a pile of shit right now and see how we survive.
