Get a Date Coach

If you’re having a hard time getting a date – don’t despair, take action!

How? Consider hiring a dating coach.

According to the Associated Press, more and more frustrated singles are turning to professional dating coaches for help. They offer services ranging anywhere from $75-dollar-an-hour “dating skills” consultations and fashion makeovers, to “field trips” where they watch you interact with other singles and on dates. And for $10-thousand dollars you can get a whole-life immersion, where a dating coach will move into your house for a weekend, and then provide 24/7 dating support for the next 3 months.

Since there’s no central certification agency, it’s hard to tell what kind of training or experience dating coaches have. And of course, their assessment of your strengths and weaknesses may be no more insightful than the advice a friend might give you, for free. But dating coaches can do what a lot of friends can’t: be brutally honest.

Still, if the idea of a dating coach isn’t for you, here’s some free dating advice:
  • First, always smile and say hello to everyone you run into. David Wygant, author of the book Always Talk to Strangers, says people are attracted to friendly people who are approachable.
  • Then, San Francisco date doctor Lisa Altalida recommends looking at 3 main areas of your life: First, look at yourself to see what’s holding you back from relationship success. Are you sabotaging yourself? Then, look at your environment and the people you hang out with. If they’re all married or you spend your nights watching TV, you’ll never find a date. And third: Examine your dating practices. And try dating just to date, without committing too soon.
  • And here’s one last bit of free advice from date doctor Jeff Cohen of Ridgewood, New Jersey: Make a list of 5 close friends and family members who are in solid relationships. And write down how they met the person they’re with. Right there you’ll have 5 techniques for meeting someone that have already worked.
