Oh, I also did a photo shoot a week ago for a friend who is a budding photographer. That means I'm now "in the modeling business" right?

I get it... and yet I am also a fan of vision boards and visualisation ...

so in another sense you can say "I am a writer." Even if you have a blog, write for others such as grant proposals or wedding speeches, ie do any kind of writing even though you may be secretly working on one or a number of book projects and hope to be the next best seller!!!

Okay - I get it, I have answered the implied question myself. To be a an actor you must actually act, even if it is just as a hobby, while you are simultaneously studying acting seriously on the side.

Short term baby steps while working on a bigger picture (developing yourself and your skill) with determination and discipline is the difference between the real thing (as whatever level) compared to the "wanna be's" ie who say they are but really are just fooling themselves. No wonder they come across as not being genuine.

It's interesting how people try to identify with things they aren't even a part of yet. You hear, "I'm an artist" or "I'm a musician" so often, but that stuff more often than not turns out to be just a hobby. I write songs and have gotten quite a positive reception to them. I have yet to be able to pay my bills from music though, so there's no reason to call myself a songwriter. I'm just a student with a songwriting hobby. My neighbor is a babysitter with a painting hobby. The people you are talking about are waiters with a getting-rejected-at-auditions hobby.
