The other day one of you guys sent me this video.

I rarely have the time to watch online videos but this one struck a chord.

Facebook is dumbing the world.

We no longer speak in real sentences and everything ends with BYB LOL.

We have become technology retards. The younger generation will use this form of communication over face to face and phone.

Check out the video, its funny but the social message behind it really makes you think about how we conduct ourselves today.

I've deleted my Facebook months ago,reason that the people even I know in person for years that they weren't getting my tongue in cheek sense of humor on it nor do they take anything with a grain of salt,no matter how many :) :) :) I put next to it. I feel that it's really sad no one picks up the phone and calls anyone anymore. They use facebook to stay connected,not the phone and are using Facebook to hide behind it. I feel the same way about texting, you see all these cute girls running around texting like crazy...You have time to text, you have time to dial a phone...

I think this video really makes a lot of sense, and I am reconsidering setting up a facebook page now. It's amazing how so many guys probably think they they are being polite, attentive and persistent when they follow someone on facebook. I think the moral of the story in this one is that women that are in high demand will probably not respond to a guy through facebook if they take on that attitude of "hey I met you we talked for five seconds and I think we had a connection". It's insecurity, and a good woman can see it in your words. If most men behave this way, and quality women are removing themselves from facebook because of it, why not just get out there and find a woman and make a REAL connection? I feel the same way about texting, and I am really glad at age 24 that I never learned how to text a full paragaph of information with 16 abbreviated sentences strung together. I am sure that both facebook and texting have their uses, but only as a second choice to a voicemail, a phone call, or a good conversation with a lot of eye contact. While I still struggle with it myself, I know in my heart the few times that I have managed to be confident, relaxed and genuine that I have gotten more positive results than I ever have before. Voicemail, phone and face-to-face..... they get to hear your soul, they get to see your soul; and when you can show that you are not hiding your soul from yourself, even if they do not want to date, or they have a boyfriend, or even a husband, they may not respond to it the way you want but they will respect that in you.

Wow, that video pretty much sums it all up. Freaking funny!!! I personally have no issues with a Facebook page, that is, if you monitor it properly and only let the right people into your circle. I consider it a tool to be used for fun and entertainment, and NEVER a substitute for a personal interaction/phone call/etc. -JamesM

The purpose of facebook is to SOCIAL NETWORK!Find common interests and help each other out. It is not secure never has been and never will be. No matter what your stupid settings are. Facebook is a tool it can be used for good and it can be used for bad. There are 500 million people of course there are going to be weirdo's,but it is a double sided coin. You dont want million guys hitting on you but what if no one ever hitted on you? Probally would feel pretty unattractive!

Facebook, texting, emmail. It does not convey the real you, it conveys the edited version of you. Much better talking over the phone or in person. No time for editing, but instead being the real you.

Looks like the same as usual... Girl has all the power in this country, due to W.L. Men do all the chasing, Women do all the chosing, and selection... In most parts of the world, it is completely opposite...Men are the prize... Google China, Phillipines, Thailand, Russia, etc, for instance. Think I might look overseas for a gal. Girls are plentifull, thin, submissive, appreciative of a good man.(have you noticed the size of American women lately? One in three are obese now. (that ought to get a rise ;)

I'm glad you enjoyed the video! When I first watched it I thought, "This is the kind of stuff David teaches people NOT to do." Personally I view Facebook as a lightweight email tool where you can share images and media with friends easily. I never thought of it as a place to make new connections with people I never met before. A lot of my female friends have told me about creepy guys who constantly facebook message them and text them stupid messages in an attempt to build attraction or get a date. It can certainly work if done at the right time, but many guys just skip to it and expect the girl to be receptive. Typing in a text is easy. Controlling your body language, keeping eye contact, and staying genuine are harder. The latter gets you farther in any interaction! I think the digital age has helped us stay in contact, but it's encouraged us to drift farther apart. People are starting to forget the essentials of social interaction! Or maybe they never learned them in the first place because Facebook, texting, and email have made it easy to avoid direct human contact for a lot of things.

I'm not going to stop using Facebook, but this post helped me realize that trying to really connect with people using Facebook is flat out bad. I deleted my "about me" section, favorite quotes, etc. basically anything that I had put on there to try and get people to really know me through my FB page. No more of that. I'll still use it for networking and to kill time in between classes, but I'm vowing to only connect and get to know people in real life from now on.

I used to try and do the whole facebook hitting on thing for a VERY short while. Now, I only add people I've actually met and hung out with for a while. It's nice to be able to keep in touch with some people, plus it can be convenient to chat sometimes. Oh, tom's on. Haven't talked to him in a while. Let's see what's up? Oh, capri's on. I wonder how things are going.
