This is a great blog. It is scary, though. Why ? When I grew up, I had a lot of grown up men tell me stuff like 'don't let her boss you around' when the girls became too dominant. They just always reminded you to be the man. It was the natural thing to do. When exactly did that stop ? When did we become such pussies ? It must have something to do with this entire women's lib movement. I admit that I do have a problem with female bosses. But only when they want to boss me around. That is also a skill that a lot of women do not seem to have anymore. The skill to get a man to do anything for them, just by being...female. It's sad.

Hmm very interesting discussion about female bosses and women in high level positions.. Women can still be their feminine selves and even not be too afraid to bring it out at work..I think women feel fearful of showing their "softness" at work..

Hans, I think it REALLY depends on the female boss. I am a freelancer so I have seen a lot of bosses. One of my favorites was this tiny young snarky indian girl. She was extremely ballsy, possibly the ballsiest person in the company. BUT she would also talk like a human being, have RESPECT for the people working for her, and admit when she does not know something. She ended up getting a glowing recommendation from me. My least favorite ever was this extremely negative, controlling, snippy, bureaucratic woman I once had to work for. She would get antsy any time I talked to another person directly without involving her, and even her compliments sounded like insults. She was definitely ballsy and assertive and 'manly' though, but in all the wrong ways. She ended up getting contempt and resistance from me. It's the difference between DEMANDING authority and COMMANDING authority I think.

Technoboy, that young snarky Indian girl sounds like a boss I would give my life for. I was indeed talking about the haters, the women that behave like men, not because that's what they are, but because that's what they want to be. Over here, they just made a woman (and she is kind of cute) the Secretary of Defense. There really is just no way the troops can take her serious. Maybe I am just really old fashioned...and yes, I saw Michelle Rodriguez kick butt in 'Avatar'. Too bad it was just a movie !

You know, this leading + following concept is getting EXTREMELY difficult nowadays. It makes me want to go back to simpler times with clearly defined gender roles! Here's my problem. I DO like to take initiative and call the shots. Then again I also like dominant women who do the same. It's my downfall I think. In my experience that does not work out because you end up with two people stepping on each other's toes and no clearly defined roles and responsibilities, eventually ending in "no, don't load the dishes THIS way, load them THAT way, you fool! Nag nag nag". How many times do you see THAT level of relationship these days? It COULD work out in theory - one day she takes the initiative and I am there to go along for the ride, the next day she takes a trip into my world - but I don't see things working out that way in practice.

Excellent gem of a blog post! It felt good hearing David's insight and advice to men..encouraging men to take the lead.. It is sand as Hans said, I believe things have gotten confused since the women's lib movement where we all kind of "forgot" women forgot how to be women and Men forgot how to be men, roles got reversed and too equal.. When women embrace their femininity and men are really in their masculine energy things are just so much more harmonious..

I know there are good female bosses who deserve their jobs, and I know there are bad male bosses who don't deserve theirs, but my experience has been overwhelmingly pro-men and anti-women. All the worst bosses I've had except for one have been women. Most of that comes from the fact that they are just terrible leaders. They either severely lack a necessary skill or they way overcompensate. It's awful.
