I travel a lot.

Usually, at least once a month, I’m traveling through an airport on my way to do some coaching, speak at a conference, or to just have a little me-cation.

And every time I travel, whether with a friend or by myself, I meet people. In fact, I meet women––lots of them. And of course, some of them are married, some of them are grandmothers, and some of them are a bit too young for my taste, but they are there.

I agree, the airport is a great place to meet women! The last time I went on a trip, I encountered some cool people, a cute gal started talking to me first as I was standing in line waiting to board the plane. Another cute gal helped me pick up my things as I fumbled through trying to grab them...lol I met this delightful lady on board the plane, we talked about where she was going, and who she was visiting which was her daughter. I find the airport is like being in a movie, you encounter all sorts of cool people!

Fuck your phone ! That is what I am thinking multiple times each and every day. It really looks retarded when people stare at these things in public. God has equipped the human body with voice cords, so people can talk to each other and connect. I really pray that the phone thing is just a temporary fluke that will pass. I had a Facebook account once, but I cancelled it after one of my 'friends' posted that right now he was taking a dump and that he apparently had diarrhea. I am not kidding. I don't see how people can get any satisfaction out of talking to a screen.

"It really looks retarded when people stare at these things in public." Haha, I noticed that too. Now me, I think computers going from your home + office into your pants is just as big a leap/revolution as computers going from research centers to your home + office back in the formative days of PCs. So basically mobile computing is here to stay. BUT as high tech and modern as I am, I'm really not on board with 'social' media. I really don't get diddling with your device to post about the sandwich you just ate or the dump you just took (really?!), or to turn your $500 technological marvel of a device into a really bad typewriter. I hope that this will go the way of a trend/fad, like the hula hoop, or pogo sticks, or my little ponies, ... . I actually make it a point to arrange my social outings in as LOW tech a way as possible. My favorite is running into people at an event, talking about some other related event and get them interested in meeting there without even exchanging contact info. My second favorite is getting someone's phone number and talking to them directly. My least favorite is being banished to their facebook or meetup account.

I'm going to defend social media this way even though I'm not a strong advocate of it....About 3 years ago, my high school had their reunion, it was solely organized through facebook and there was a good turnout. I was around when there was no social media. And often times would loose contact with people, with no hope of reconnecting. Since facebook has been around, I have been reconnecting with peeps. This is not to say, facebook is a greatest thing to improve one's dating life or verbal skills. Another example of mine, there was also a family reunion which I attended that was solely organized through facebook. Years ago, it wouldn't have been possible to invite half those people. Social media makes it a lot easier to connect with people in that way. Yes, there is a lot of self-promotion where you see people advertise themselves like on TV reality shows and also there are misrepresentations of themselves online. Social media can also be a great way of meeting people, connecting with them but as an outlet rather than its sole purpose. If people want to get better at communication skills, improve their dating life, social media wouldn't be the way to go, but other than that, social media does have a useful purpose!
