Not searching or shortcuts makes the real difference. It shows that one actually cares about other people and has a life. Everybody likes people that care.

When you don't take a shortcut you have confidnce that in the end the result will be fine anyway but you let go of it.

That's what I like in repetitve encounters. You plant a seed and then have a base to continue next time at a much higher level. And you probably have plenty to tell each other in the meantime!

A shortcut is like saying lines that you copied off of someone else's paper and they don't make sense to you when you are called on to explain what you just said. It's all just noise. But if you created it yourself, you really do own it and you sound like a genuine guy.

Adam - thanks for saving us gals from yet another interrogation!

tony888,

Think back about the importance of observations. Comment on these things you observe.

Grocery store: ex, girl looking at a wall of pasta sauce, "Its hard to pick with so many options. I love this one!"

I think there are "short cuts" in life, but they aren't the type of "magic pill" short cuts that the media loves to market to the masses. It's the whole idea of not necessarily working harder, but smarter. It all starts with thinking about how to do things better, how to learn faster and how to make maximum use of available resources. That to me is "smart short cuts". It pays to be clever in life. There is no way to avoid doing real work, but creativity and out-of-the-box-thinking can help you leverage and ease the load.

...

On a complete different subject. Adam's podcast. Got me thinking. So I wrote down the first question that came to my mind and rewrote it as a statement. The results are so much better.

Question: Do you like roof top bars/lounges?

Statement: I love roof top bars, especially during the summer time. Fresh air and you can actually have a real conversation with somebody.

Question? Boring! Statement? A lot better.

Great personal life sharing here David. I myself have personally failed miserably when I look for the shortcut. Shortcuts are cheats, and you literally are cheating yourselves out of a base, foundation. Great podcast by Adam too. Love his voice, it's so soothing and encouraging.

Good point MAC. About hearing a skit or demo of not only how NOT to do something, but How TO do something. As the old saying goes, "Lead by example." There's no more powerful lesson than a good example of the right way to do something.

He gave maybe one or two examples. "This is a great bar!" and "I'm having a great night!"
But what if you're not at a bar? Which I don't like going to anymore, and David doesn't like bars either as I recall.

What are some examples of statements you could make at a restaurant or grocery store? Or gas station or gym/health club? Or the reception desk at a clinic or doctor's office? Or while taking a walk in your neighborhood?

Got any ideas for those places Adam? We could use some help there.

The shortcuts issue is something I find goes much deeper than just meeting people. Our whole society is taught to seek immediate gratification, exert the least amount of effort for the greatest reward, and then never question the underlying reasoning behind their actions.
