Admit it, even being a guy you feel down for a split second because your buddy may have just hooked up with this really hot babe, and you're alone. But here's the deal...

As far as I know, there really is only one holiday in February.

I’m sure you guys are all thinking, “What’s the holiday? Is it the President’s Day weekend?” That one’s still not much of a holiday. (Well, when we were in grade school and got the day off, it pretty much was a holiday. But I digress.)

And now I know you’re thinking Valentine’s Day, right? To me, that’s not a holiday for men, that’s a holiday for women. I’m actually talking about the Superbowl. That is a man’s holiday. But, it’s over, and now we have to think about the next holiday, and that happens to be the dreaded Valentine’s Day.

Oh man, I’ve got to tell you something about Valentine’s Day. Every single person for some reason or another dreads it. You hear about it, you see commercials about it, and you think to yourself, “Man, I’m single, and I haven’t met anybody this year.” It makes you feel down for a split second. Admit it, even being a guy you feel down for a split second because your buddy may have just hooked up with this really hot babe, and you’re alone.

But here’s the deal: I like it. Being single on a holiday that’s geared towards women—you can’t ask for a better setup.

Think about it. Women, right now, are clearly in admittance mode that they’re all alone; they’re vulnerable, and they’re open. They’re thinking, “Wow, another Valentine’s Day with no guy. Nobody’s taking me out for an overpriced meal. No one is buying me flowers. No one is buying me anything.” I think that’s fantastic.

So here’s the deal: I love every single Valentine’s Day. Remember when we were little kids and they had those ridiculous little candies with the sweet messages on them? They were like these things made out of talcum powder—so gross, but people like them.

What I would do on Valentine’s Day when I was single is I’d walk around with a big bag of that stuff, or a little box of it. If I saw a woman and I’d start talking to her a little bit, and I would ask, “So tell me, what are your big plans for Valentine’s Day?” And of course half of them would say, “Oh, I’m not dating anybody, I’m going to sit around with some friends. I’m going to watch a movie.” Or whatever.

And I would say:

“You know what, be my valentine. Remember how much fun it was when we were kids and we used to go to school on Valentine’s Day, and we all used to hand out great little cards to each other. And we would enable our crush. That would be the only day that we were allowed to let our crush know that we actually liked them. And we’d hope that they liked us back. I want to bring you back to those days.”

And then you reach into your pocket and whip out a box of those ridiculous little talcum powder things that have “Be My Sweetheart” on them. You tell her to open her hands. And as she opens her hand, you drop one in her palm.

She’ll start giggling and laughing. What this did was it brought her back to the days of being a kid again. You gave her a great feeling, and that’s what women are all about.

Valentine’s Day is just about being goofy and having a good time. You don’t need to take it so seriously! Nobody does things like this, but I’ve done it. Oh, I’ve done it. It’s led to instant Valentine’s Day dates, and I’m not talking about an overpriced dinner, I’m talking about getting her to cook for me. It’s led to great invites to little parties, get-togethers later on that week; it’s led to a relationship.

It’s about creating a moment for her, and she will tell all her friends about this guy that she met at the supermarket, in the elevator, at Starbucks, wherever it might be, and how he cheered up her Valentines Day.

So for you guys who have trouble meeting women, practice this technique that I put out there. Practice it a little bit, and get out there and meet women this Valentine’s Day.

It’s February, the month of love. Valentine’s Day is fast approaching.

I was sitting around this morning and I realized something that really hit me like a ton of bricks: we’re all looking for our soulmates out there. Everyday millions of people are going out on dates hoping and praying that they’ve met “the one” or their soulmate. Everyday people are logging into online dating sites hoping that the new e-mail is from their soulmate.

We’ve been doing it wrong for so long. Do you want to know where your soulmate really is? Are you willing to join me on a journey to help you discover your soulmate? If the answer is yes, which I know it is, I want you to do something right now. I want you to go into your bathroom or find the closest mirror. Maybe you’re reading this at work, maybe you’re reading this in the car while you’re driving. (You know that’s not allowed but hey, I’ve seen people do it constantly while living here in Los Angeles.)

Wherever you might are right now, I want you to go find the nearest mirror, and I want you to look at it, and I want you to come back and read the rest of this article.

. . .

. . .

. . .

Great.

What did you see when you looked in the mirror? I know your answer is probably simply yourself or maybe your eyes or your nose or your hair, or maybe you’re not having a good hair day so you noticed that you need to get a new conditioner. That’s not what I was looking for. I want you to go look in the mirror one more time, and then I want you to come back and read some more.

. . .

Okay. Now what did you see? I’m sure by now you’re confused, and you just want to go and skim down a few lines and see what I’m getting at. Why is he making me looking in the mirror right now? Why is he telling me to look in mirror?

You know why I want you to look in the mirror, because you just saw your soulmate. You just saw the person you’re supposed to be madly in love with. You just saw the person you’re supposed to connect with and honor in all ways. You just saw the person that you’re supposed to nurture and take care of. You just saw the person that you’re supposed to love unconditionally in every way, shape, or form.

You just found your soulmate. Life is all about loving yourself and finding yourself. It’s not about filling in the gaps. It’s not about searching for that potential person that’s going to save you from a life of being alone. It’s about loving yourself. It’s about realizing that the person staring back at you in the mirror is your soulmate. Once you fall madly in love with yourself, once you realize the power of this message, dating is going to become far easier because you’re already satisfied on so many levels.

Think about this for a second: if you would treat your lover with honor, with respect; if you would take your lover out to dinner; if you would go to great events with your lover; if you would travel with your lover—then that’s what you need to do with yourself.

If you do this you’re going to attract your other soulmate. You’re going to attract your other half, another person that loves and honors and respects themselves.

So go back to that mirror, and look at the beautiful person that’s staring back at you, and tell yourself that you finally found your soulmate. Try that attitude change for a bit, and see how it changes your dating life. My book Naked! is all about this, falling in love with yourself, so you’re able to fall in love with others.

You know, I’m not going to write that much about Valentine’s Day. What I am going to say about it is along the lines of what I talked about in last weeks video.

There is one big Valentine’s Day lesson I want all of you to learn. It is about how to make Valentine’s Day exciting for both sexes.

How do you do that? It’s very, very simple.

Men are extremely visual. Why do you think a lot of men go out and get their girlfriend lingerie on Valentine’s Day?

Women want to feel romanced. They do not necessarily want Valentine’s Day to just be dinner reservations. They want men to come up with something creative.
So to make Valentine’s Day exciting for both sexes, both sexes have to be thinking about what the other one wants.

If you are the woman, you can have a visual surprise for the man. It could be lingerie. I heard about one woman who dressed up as cupid for her man and shot him with an arrow.

It’s all about the visual of seeing you in a different light — seeing you in something sexy. It’s realizing that you have something sexy in store. You could maybe rub oil all over each other or whatever it might be.

What you want to do is something different than what he sees on February 13th and February 15th. It’s that simple.

For the men, you need to understand that what women really want is for you to just make a little extra effort on that day. That’s all, just a little extra effort.

Instead of just buying flowers, come up with something like I talk about in the video You could do a home picnic. Maybe light some candles all over the house.

It’s really all about really creating a different and romantic experience for her, so she feels like you went the extra distance that day to make her feel just a little more special. It’s not about the gift; it’s about the act of showing love. That’s really what does it for women.

So men are visual and women feel the act of love. The sexes are really very simple, but yet both sexes seem to screw up Valentine’s Day on a regular basis. Why? For no reason except ego.

The men don’t like Valentine’s Day. They think it’s too commercial; it’s a “Hallmark holiday.” They don’t see the need for Valentine’s Day because they feel like they show their love every day.

The women in turn don’t understand the need to make Valentine’s Day fun for the men. When you wake up in the morning, come out of the bathroom wearing a sexy little nightgown (instead of your old bathrobe) and put on some mood music. Do something to stimulate his visual side.

Play off each other’s wants and desires. It’s that simple. Play off each other’s innate personality traits on Valentine’s day and you both will have a more phenomenal day than you ever imagined.

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. Are you thinking to yourself, “What do I do? This is my first Valentine’s Day alone in a long time.”

Are you newly single or is the ink still wet on your divorce papers as this Valentine’s Day approaches? If so, is this making you wonder what to do on Valentine’s Day?

You feel lonely. You think about maybe getting the kids together and having a party. You even think for a second about calling your ex to see what they are up to.

Here’s a better idea. Embrace the fact that you are alone. Embrace the fact that you know you have a choice to go out and meet anybody you want. Embrace the fact that you can be proactive about doing that.

To help you to get a start on embracing this, here are five ideas to help you make this Valentine’s Day better than any one you’ve ever had:

1.	Have A Group Dinner: Invite all of your divorced friends and have each of them bring a member of the opposite sex with them who is single. You can even extend your social circle in a way that is easy, comfortable and fun. It doesn’t even have to be just divorced people, it could just be anybody who is single. The only requirement is that they have to bring one new person with them. You’ll have a great evening, and give yourself a chance to meet a whole new group of friends at the same time.

2.	Do An Online Dating Site Impromptu Invite: Another thing to do is put your online profile up on one of the big dating sites (e.g., match.com). Be sure to put your picture up on there. On your profile, say “I am only here for a week. That’s it. After that week is done, my profile is being taken down. Here’s the deal — I am getting strangers together for a Valentine’s Day Party. So if you are interested in coming, shoot me an email!” You will get a ton of men responding to you. A ton. Then you can weed through and figure out which ones you want to invite and which ones you don’t. Then invite your friends to come, and have a great and fun evening out somewhere where you can meet a lot of great new people.

Hallmark Holiday All The Way!

3.	Have A Girls Night: Round up all your single girlfriends, and plan a great night out together. Call them up and say, “Let’s make Valentine’s Day a girls night!” You don’t need men to have a great Valentine’s Day. You may not be ready to meet someone yet, and still may be going through the process of figuring out why the relationship went where it went and why it ended. So if that’s where you are, allow yourself to embrace that, and just enjoy yourself with your friends on Valentine’s Day.

4.	Keep Hallmark In The Holiday: Just because you are single doesn’t mean that you can’t still show love on Valentine’s Day. How about showing some love to your family or your friends? Why not get together with family and exchange Valentine’s Day cards with them. Have some fun with it. Remember that Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be all about meeting someone.

5.	Treat Yourself: Something I tell everyone who is newly off of a breakup or a divorce is to be sure to reconnect with yourself before going out to meet someone new. You need time to process everything that happened, and more importantly to reconnect with yourself and who you are as a person. So on this Valentine’s Day, you could take the day and treat yourself — to a massage, a great pedicure or even just a great bubble bath by candlelight at home. Show yourself some love.

So, those are five good things to do this Valentine’s Day if you are single (and especially if you’re newly single). These are things you can do whether you want to meet new people or you just want to reflect or enjoy your family. Either way is fine.

If you’re having trouble with being single on Valentine’s Day, just remember that it is just one day out of the whole year. There are 364 other days that are all about you and trying to enjoy your newfound singlehood.

You know, I’m not going to write that much about Valentine’s Day. What I am going to say about it is along the lines of what I talked about in Wednesday’s Podcast.

Instead of just buying flowers, come up with something like I talk about in the podcast. You could do a home picnic.

The Super Bowl was a great game this year. I really enjoyed it. I was pretty amazed at the way things went down. Well, actually, I wasn’t. You know me, I’ve been a good football predictor all year.

Do you realize that Super Bowl Sunday is the man event of the year? Now, I know a lot of women also watch it and enjoy it, but this is a man’s event.

This is an “Oh my God, why doesn’t Hallmark have a line of Super Bowl cards?” type of important event to men. This is a day that a man wishes his girl could find a card to give him that says:

To My Honey On This Super Bowl Sunday…
Enjoy it even though I know I know your team is not in it.
Enjoy it even though you are neutral.
May your love of the game outweigh your sadness that the Jets lost in the Championship Game.
So may this Super Bowl XLIV be a special day for you.

Imagine if Hallmark did it like that. Hallmark is missing Super Bowl cards. That would be amazing.

Do you know what Super Bowl cards would be? They would be for men the equivalent of a woman getting a Valentine’s Day card.

Not only that, there should be Super Bowl gifts like there are on Valentine’s Day. You could buy your man some man-lingerie. Think about it. You could get him a tighter fitting NFL Jets jersey (or a jersey from his favorite team) and some matching New York Jets underwear. It would be the equivalent of women’s lingerie.

Can you imagine that on Super Bowl Sunday? The man wakes up to a present of some great man-lingerie. There it is . . . his favorite team’s logo on some tight shirt and shorts that he can wear and show off his muscles to you.

Then maybe there could be other gifts to go with the man-lingerie. How about some Jets Soap On A Rope? Perhaps some New York Jets cologne.

Who knows what could be created to celebrate this most amazing of man days? I’m telling you, the NFL and Hallmark missed a huge day, because men all over the world could have been getting cards and man-lingerie from women.

Here’s the thing. Valentine’s Day is women’s Super Bowl Sunday.

It is so many men’s failure to see Valentine’s Day this way that causes them to put no effort into it and make lame reservations. It also causes them to not understand how doing that leaves women feeling really disappointed.

Picture you as a man meeting your girlfriend at your annual Super Bowl party with all your friends, and she shows up with a can of cheap bean dip (instead of actually making the amazing bean dip from her Grandmother’s recipe). How could she do this to you on your special day?

Well that is the same type of feeling a woman gets when you make lousy reservations or lame plans for Valentine’s Day. So all of you men need to think about Valentine’s day this year.

I also know that some of you are not in the “Valentine’s Day Mode” because you do not have a girlfriend or a date on Valentine’s Day. So instead of being depressed and angry that you don’t have a date, call one of your friends and say, “Let’s do a Valentine’s Day pub crawl” or “Let’s have an anti-Valentine’s Day party. But here is the rule: Everybody has to invite a new person who is single and that no one in the group knows.”

This way, you can have a great time and expand your social network at the same time. You know I talk all the time about important this is to do.

I talked more about this in this week’s podcast. If you missed it, you can listen to it HERE.

God, it’s like football withdrawal right now. What are we going to do until next August?

Baseball is boring. Basketball really heats up soon, but who cares? Well in my personal opinion, I don’t.

Before we men mourn the end of football season, however, all the guys out there need to remember that there is one more Super Bowl coming up this Sunday. It’s called Valentine’s Day.

For those of you who have a date on this women’s Super Bowl Sunday, you had better come up with something good when you make the plans. After last Sunday, it is your turn to celebrate her day and to show her an amazing time.

For those of you who are single and who do not have a date this Valentine’s Day, this blog and today’s podcast are also for you. So let’s talk about Valentine’s Day.

In today’s podcast, I am not only going to talk about what to do if you have a date on Valentine’s Day. I am also going to talk about what to do if you do not have a date, and how to get out of that pre-Valentine’s Day funk.

If you are single and don’t have a date this Valentine’s Day, I have an idea I am going to share with you in this podcast that will make this Valentine’s Day amazing. It is something that will actually have people bringing single people to you so you can have a post-Valentine’s Day date (which is actually even better and much less pressure-filled than a Valentine’s Day date).

So once a month on a street called Abbott Kinney there’s something called “1st Fridays” where all the stores on that street stay open late. You know, I think there actually was a guy named Abbott Kinney. It’s kind of a cool name . . . and hearkening back to my “Yo! and Hey Man!” blog, I can just imagine people yelling out “Hey Abbott!” and “Yo Kinney!”

Anyway, there’s a new store that’s opened up on that street called “California Herbal Remedies” where you can get a 20% vanilla cake or even a 30% chocolate brownie that’s guaranteed to make your head spin for the entire day. All this can be yours if you go to a clinic, tell them you hurt your shoulder and say that Advil has stopped working to alleviate the pain.

Let me just say this: I’m all for the legalization of marijuana. I’ve never met someone who was high who acted like an asshole. On the other hand, I’ve met many a person who acted like an asshole when they were drunk. There should be a warning label on alcohol bottles that reads “Warning: Consumption of this fluid may turn you into an asshole.”

So, it was no surprise that the biggest crowd was outside California Herbal Remedies last night. It was, after all, the store with the best munchies. Big shock!

Alright, let’s talk about why people get wasted. They do it with the hopes of getting Lucky in love.

On the topic of luck, can you really get “lucky in love?” Is there a way to get lucky in love? Does getting “lucky in love” really exist?

I’m going to tell you something right now that’s going to blow your mind: You can absolutely be lucky in love! Here are five ways to ensure you will be lucky in love:

1.	Hard Work Plus Opportunity Equals Luck: In order to get lucky in love, you need to put the effort into going out there and meeting people. You need to go out and talk to people. You need create the opportunity for luck to happen to you. Luck only happens when hard work meets opportunity. Thomas Jefferson said it perfectly when he said “I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it.”

2.	Luck In Love Finds Those Open To Love: The reason why people are lucky in love is because they’re open to love. What I mean by “open to love” is that they are out there talking to people every single day and being okay with letting people know they’re single. If you want to get lucky in love, be open to other people trying to find you love. Open yourself up a little bit, and stop being so closed off to others taking a role in creating luck in your love life. When you meet somebody and they ask you if you’re single, stop looking at it like it’s a plague or disease and say “Yes I am. Do you know of anybody great you think I should meet?” In order to get lucky in love, you need to expand your horizons.

3.	Luck In Love Comes To Those Willing To Give A Bit Of The Unknown A Try: In order to get really lucky in love, you should also use the power of your network to help create that luck for you. For instance, you can use online dating in a new way to create luck in your love life. Here is a little trick that I used to use all the time when I was dating online. When I would meet someone online with whom I didn’t end up having a connection but who I thought was a great person, I’d make a suggestion. I’d say “I don’t know about you, but I’m getting sick of all these coffee dates. Why don’t we get a whole group of our friends together and see if any magic (or luck) can happen.” This is yet another way to create luck in your love life . . . and possibly in the life of someone else.

4.	Luck In Love Is The Product Of Persistence: If you want to get really lucky in love, you have to realize that luck is the product of persistence. You will have to put consistent effort in and be willing to be persistent in not giving up on the search for love. When you are persistent, you will be rewarded with luck in love. The truth is that you’re not going to find a four-leaf clover or a little leprechaun to help you get lucky in love. It’s really up to you. It’s really all about the power of your network. How strong is your network and how big can you build your network to become? As I said in #3 above, are you trying things that create opportunities to bring people into your life and into your network? When you do, you will be lucky in love.

5.	Luck In Love Comes To Those Who Are Already In Love: This probably sounds a bit puzzling at first read, but let me tell you what I mean. In order to really be lucky in love, you need to first love yourself. You need to really believe in yourself. You need to stop letting fears and excuses keep you from being open to love. You need to stop making excuses. You need to stop saying things like “I’m a 47 year old woman and men don’t want women my age” or “I’m 20 pounds overweight and no woman is going to find me attractive.” You have to believe that you are a gift – a gift that’s worth giving and a gift worth receiving.
