Forty-two years ago the New York Jets won the Super Bowl. I was just a little kid then. I barely remember it. All I remember about it was my Dad watching it and Joe Namath celebrating — and that’s about it.

The thing about being seven years old is that we all have what I call “Young Alzheimer’s.” We tend to forget what happened even the day before, and it’s hard to bring back those memories unless you see pictures or videos of yourself.

It’s time for the New York Jets to take it to the next level. Forty-two years since the last Super Bowl victory. That’s a long time.

Last year they made it to the Championship Game, and they were happy just to be there. They were 9-7, and they only made it to that game due to catching a couple of lucky breaks at the end of the season.

This year, however, they dominated. They were 9-2, then they struggled in a few games, and ended up finishing 11-5.

This year, they made it to the playoffs and they beat Peyton Manning. As Rex Ryan said, ‘This time it was personal.’ They beat the Colts and it felt great.

The Jets could have quit there. They could have said, “At least this year we beat Peyton Manning.” They didn’t have that attitude. Instead they were thinking, “Up next is the juggernaut called the Patriots.” Up next they were facing the 14-2 Patriots who embarrassed them earlier in the season in a 45-3 blowout and then taunted them to try and make them feel worthless.

What happened when they played the Patriots in the playoffs? The Jets dominated them. They could have quit there and thought, “Well we dominated the Colts and the Patriots. We don’t need to beat the Steelers.” But they do . . . and so do you.

I think there comes a time when “just good enough” is not enough. There comes a time when you really need to put the other team away. There comes a time when you must take it to the next level.

you can’t be satisfied anymore with just being “good enough” or just being “okay.” There comes a time when you’ve got to deliver, and you have to believe and take your game to the next level in order to do it.

Mark Sanchez and the Jets need to do that. As Bart Scott said at the end of his interview, he can’t wait to get to Pittsburgh. I can’t wait to see the Jets beat the Steelers. I can’t wait to see them go to the next level.

It’s just a game. It’s just football. It means nothing in the long run. I’m not playing or coaching — I’m just a fan. In the long run, however, what is important is how you take YOUR game to the next level.

Are you tired of just going out and saying hello? Don’t you want to ask somebody out? Do you want to get the number? Do you want to date the person you most want to date?

Aren’t you just sick and tired of just being ‘in the game’ and being “just okay?” Don’t you want to dominate the game, own the game and become the powerful person you always wanted to become?

I don’t care if you’re a man or woman. It’s time to stop just showing up, and to stop congratulating yourself for just showing up. It’s time for all of you to dominate in the field of dating.

As of right now I would make you all underdogs in the dating game — not by much, maybe a touchdown. I truly believe, though, that each and every one of you can start dominating in the field of dating.

Get on that playing field every single day. If you’re a man, go out and talk to women every single day. If you’re a woman, go out there and flirt and make yourself available every single day.

Stop just showing up, and start to dominate the field of play. The only way you are going to do that is to believe in yourself.

In the NFL you have a team behind you. You have the coach (even though the coach might have a foot fetish — sorry I had to throw that in there), and you have another player who has your back all the time. That is part of what makes NFL football such a great sport.

In the dating game, I have your back. The blog and other members of this community have your back ready to help you.

It’s time to stop feeling like you’re alone, and and the blog, other people have your back, helping you, commenting. It’s time to stop feeling like you’re alone and to start connecting with the team that’s all around you.

For those of you who have thought about getting some coaching or about coming to a Bootcamp, it’s time you came and joined the team so that you have some people to support you. You don’t need to do this alone. You can do this with the help of others.

So, I want to say “Go Jets!” this weekend. I predict that the Jets are going to win that game 23-14. I actually think they are going to not just win, but dominate, in that game because they believe in themselves.

You guys always ask me if the direct approach works.

Check out Joe Namath using the direct approach with women.

That is what an armchair quarterback does. An armchair quarterback will break down a conversation they had with a woman (or a man if you’re a woman).

If you are an armchair quarterback, what you’ll do is grab the ear of one of your friends and break down the entire exchange — line by line. What happens here is that you end up breaking down and interpreting the situation based on a want or a need, and you end up skewing it in your direction.

Here’s what’s crazy about being an armchair quarterback. You can never really do what you are trying to do, and you are doing nothing that helps you.

First, you have no idea what the other person is thinking unless you talk to them. So no matter how much time you spend dissecting a conversation, you will never know for a fact whether your guesses and speculation are correct.

Second, it’s such a waste of time going through this over and over again with your friends. A real quarterback is someone who leads his team. If you watched Mark Sanchez recently in the Jets’ game against the Miami Dolphins, you saw a great example of a quarterback who was not leading his team.

His shoulders were hunched over, and he was pissed off practically the whole time. Every time he threw the ball badly, his body language was awful. He’d roll his shoulders forward, he’d pout a little bit. He is an armchair quarterback.

Peyton Manning, on the other hand, is never an armchair quarterback. He may get really pissed at himself when he screws up, but he always goes back out there and attacks the field.

If you look at Tom Brady, he is the same way. He attacks the field of play. He owns the field of play.

So what do you want to be in your life?

Do you want to be like Mark Sanchez? Do you want to be a guy who is constantly thinking and wondering about everything people say, or do you want to be more like Tom Brady and go out there, take control and attack the field of life?

A real quarterback takes full control over everything in their life, and they don’t worry about what they think someone is thinking. In reality, you never know what someone is thinking until you ask them.

A real quarterback will do that. A real quarterback will ask a woman out. A real female quarterback will go after the man she wants and not worry about whether she’s playing it right or playing it wrong.

You can’t play it right or wrong if you only play it the way you want to play it. If you’re in complete control of your life, you will play it that exact way and never waste time being an armchair quarterback.

I painfully watched each and every play and was in a state of horror throughout the game.

But being a lifelong Jets fan, I have seen this many times before.

The hype, the promise and then the big game meltdown.’

So how many of you meltdown when your right in the middle of the big game?

How many of you prep all week in your head and when your out meeting people you get out witted by the Brady’s of the world?

The Jets last night were in their heads and not on the field of play.

You could see it by the way they executed. They were tight and they were done the second the Patriots scored.

I see the same Jet Like mannerisms when I am out and about.

I see men look at women and I can see them churning there wheels and going through the whole process instead of just reacting to life and the situation that is at hand.

How many of you act like Rex Ryan and over prepare?

And all the woman readers, this Jet Like mindset pertains to you.

How many of you go out on dates and think non stop about what to say or how to play the date so the guy likes you?

How many of you have that perfect game plan in your head and then come date time you get thrown for a loop because it does not go as planned?

The best players in the world adapt and come game time make adjustments in the moment.

So whats today’s message?

Are you able to overcome your Jet Like game plan and make adjustments when it comes to dating and meeting?

That by itself, though, is not enough for you to actually become successful. You need to be persistent and you need to believe in yourself.

Look at the most successful professional sports teams, and you will see that each one has these two qualities. Take last year’s New York Jets as a great example. 52 players who all believed in their coach, believed in their team and believed in themselves, and they achieved so much more than anyone thought they ever could.

Mark Sanchez was a nervous rookie, but he is going to be a great quarterback because of the experience he gained playing in the playoffs during his first year. There were probably 25 quarterbacks who were better players than Mark Sanchez at the time he was playing in the playoffs, but there he was as one of only four quarterbacks playing in those playoffs.

It’s about being prepared and sticking with your plan. It’s called persistence. It’s called believing in yourself and the people with whom you surround yourself.

What do you want out of life? Write it down. Learn the skills to get it. Then be persistent and believe.

In the NFC, I am going to stick with my preseason prediction that the Saints will make it to the Super Bowl. The score? Saints 34, Vikings 24.

Sorry Favre, but the team you should have stuck with will actually be playing the Saints in the Super Bowl. How ironic is that?

So what I am about to say next probably isn’t too much of a mystery. The Jets will win in a last second field goal, and edge out the Colts 23-20.

How did they get into field goal range? Sanchez hits Edwards for 27 yards and Edwards actually holds on to the ball.

Now let’s move onto to some talk of interaction with some other famous people…

It’s funny. I was just in Whole Foods filming a little undercover video for my Community Site members. If you don’t know about my Community Site, you can find out more HERE.

In this undercover video, Will was basically going around the store talking to people and then I would critique it. It has actually been really fun to do these undercover videos with Will.

Me critiquing him has really helped him grow socially, and I enjoy doing it. Picture Peyton Manning breaking down the “x’s and o’s” of your game or Bill Belichick designing your defense (well maybe not this year).

Anyway, while we were on this undercover shoot, we ended up in line next to actress Michelle Rodriguez (from the tv show Lost and the movie Avatar). When I asked Will if he wanted to talk to her, he said “Why not? She is a person. I can open her and talk to her just like I would anyone else.”

So he did just that. She wasn’t really all that friendly, just like some “non-famous” people are just not that friendly. She did, however, acknowledge him and talk to him a little bit and even gave him a little half-ass smile.

It’s funny. So many people are infatuated and/or intimidated by people they want to meet — whether those people are celebrities or business people. It reminds me of something that happened back in 1997 when I was living in San Diego.

I saw Tony Robbins sitting in a cafe. Everyone in the cafe was staring at him.

I called up a guy I knew, told him about Tony Robbins was there and asked him what I should do. He immediately said, “Go talk to him. When else are you going to have an opportunity to talk to Tony Robbins? Remember, everyone likes talking about themselves. Just sit down and just tell him that you are in the same business and are really curious about how he got started.”

So, I did exactly that. I talked to Tony Robbins for 45 minutes. I had a great conversation with him, and learned a lot about how he got started in his business. By the end of the conversation, I realized that Tony Robbins and I were no different.

Celebrities are only celebrities because we put them in that “celebrity box” in our own minds. They are just regular folks who happen to be acting, running a corporation or playing a professional sport.

The bottom line is that everyone likes talking about themselves. So say you see a celebrity and say “Hi, how is your day going?” They are going to answer you.

At that moment you may feel like saying, “God, I saw you in that movie and it was phenomenal! Was that your favorite role you’ve ever played?” You should say it!

When you do, that person is immediately going to start talking. I’ve done it before.

You have to realize that the universe put you there — in that place and time — for a reason. As I talk about all the time in the blog, you can learn so much from strangers. So why not approach people and talk to them?

You never know. Some of you might actually end up dating a celebrity. We might end up reading about you in US Magazine.

Others of you might run into Donald Trump and start working for him. Who knows?

It’s all networking and growing your network. Just because someone is a celebrity, doesn’t mean they can’t be in your network and doesn’t mean you can’t join theirs.

So for this week, here is my list of winners and losers. . .

The Saints will continue on their unbeaten march heading toward the playoffs.

The Packers will put the Bears into hibernation mode.

The Colts will remain unbeaten as they collect a win against the Broncos.

The Bills versus the Chiefs? Who cares! I don’t need to waste time predicting that one.

The Bengals versus the Vikings is a tough one, but I will say the Bengals will prevail.

The Patriots will get their act together and defeat the Panthers.

Even with Mark Sanchez on the sidelines, the Jets can’t be that stupid as to lose to the Buccaneers.

The Dolphins / Jaguars game could be the game of the week. Miami is a lot better than people first thought, and I’m picking Miami to win this one.

Everybody can beat the Lions, so enough said about that game.

The Texans will finally wake up this week and beat the Seahawks, and they will finish the season 8-8.

The Titans will defeat the Rams.

The Raiders seem to be able to beat good teams, and the Redskins seem to be able to beat themselves. So who really cares who wins this one. I don’t.

It’s December, so Tony Romo is thinking about eating ribs and not about playing football. So I pick the Chargers to take that game.

The Eagles versus Giants game is a tough one to call, but I am going to predict that the Giants beat the Eagles today.

The Cardinals will continue their march toward another great season with a win today against the 49ers.

Now that you know what is going to happen in all of today’s NFL games, let’s move on to talk about today’s blog topic . . .

Please follow up with me. It’s amazing. I wrote a blog the other day about how I was recently looking for cars, and about how few people would follow up with me.

Follow up is the key to life. How you follow up is the key to everything in life. It is also the key in dating.

How many of the guys reading this get a phone number from a woman, and then actually sit there and wonder when you should call her? You waste tons of time thinking about the “right” time to call, thinking “Should I wait 72 hours so I don’t look too anxious? Should I wait 24 hours, so I look not too anxious but look interested?”

These questions focus completely on the wrong thing. The reality is that it is not about how long you wait to call someone, it is about what you say (and how you keep the intrigue and attraction going) when you do call.

So many guys spend way too much time thinking and focusing on things like how long to wait to call, instead of spending time understanding how to keep the attraction building. For example, when I was single I would go and meet a woman in the supermarket, ask her based on what was in her cart what she was making for dinner. If she told me she was trying a new recipe, then I’d wish her a great meal and tell her to let me know how it turns out.

I’d tell her, “Give me your number. I want to hear all about it.” I would then call her up, and I would continue the conversation we were having at that moment in the supermarket.

I would stay in that conversation, because I want to bring her back to that moment. I would call up and say something like, “Hey, how was dinner? That sushi looked so good. Was it as good as it looked?”

What you are doing there is showing that you were paying attention to all the details. That is what it’s all about.

It is about paying attention to all the details. People respond to people who remember things about them. That is how you form a connection with someone.

So to all you guys who waste all that time thinking about when to call a woman (instead of what to say to her), it’s time you change you focus and learn how to really connect with women.

That is something I talk about in great detail in my Men’s Mastery Series. I talk about how to remember details about women so you can have powerful connections that can last a long time.

So not only can I predict the outcome of your dates, I can predict the outcome of football games for you too. Regarding your dates, I predict that most of them probably won’t go really well. That’s not to be negative, but the majority of dates don’t go well.

The Jets are the only team not to allow an offensive touchdown this year. That impresses me. Do you know who impresses me more? Rex Ryan, the Jets’ coach.

So much of life is all about coaching — in football, basketball, baseball . . . and even in dating. Without the right mentor, coach and system in place, you’re never going to get good at anything.

Life is really all about having good systems — good belief systems and good coaching systems. There’s a reason why Bill Belichick makes the Patriots competitive no matter which players they lose. It’s the system he’s put in place. Every player believes in him and believes in being a Patriot.

Life is also all about your mindset. Yesterday I saw a good friend of mine, Dr. Wayne Dyer, speak. I really enjoyed it. Here’s a man who has lived 69 years with the right mindset and belief systems, and he’s accomplished everything in his life that he’s ever wanted.

Without the right mindset, coaching and guidance, people will remain lost. How many of you resist change? How many of you have trouble changing because of your belief system? How many of you fear change, but yet you desire it so much?

Who coaches you through your hard times? To whom do you go for advice?

How honest are you with yourself about the changes that need to be made in your life? Are you someone who repeats the same mistakes over and over again, yet you can’t figure out how to change that pattern?

It’s all about coaching. It’s all about implementing a belief system that can work for you, and a belief system that will still get you to make changes on a daily basis even if things don’t always work out for you.

The reason why the Jets won yesterday, was because they made changes to their game plan at halftime. They came out in the second half, and Mark Sanchez began throwing the ball. They got the lead, and then basically proceeded to shut the Patriots down for the rest of the second half.

How did they do this? They made changes necessary to dictate the flow of the game in their favor.

Can you dictate the flow of your life in your favor? Can you do it even after frustrating things and setbacks happen to you? Can you recover quickly from rejection, or do you allow it to torture you all day long?

When something doesn’t go my way, I recover instantly. I shake it off as any good well-coached person will do.

I don’t allow things to affect me for any longer than they need to affect me. Whatever happens to me affects me in the moment, then I get over it and don’t remember even five minutes later why I was so shaken.

The systems I’m talking about are not some kind of magic system to pick up men or women. It’s about having a belief system. It’s about having the right belief system.

What is your belief system? What changes do you need to make in order to accomplish everything you want?

Wayne said is really well yesterday. He said that we should all spend the last five minutes of each day before we go to sleep imagining how we want the next day to be, imagining how we want our life to be, and imagining how that will feel.

You don’t want to spend the end of your days thinking about what didn’t get done, what you messed up and what you haven’t achieved. By thinking this way, a lot of you are programming yourself to be in a constant state of panic (that begins from the moment you wake up).

So today on this Monday, I challenge all of you to write down all the things you want to change, and how you will feel when you implement those changes.

For those of you who are looking to bet on tonight’s game — because you know I am a master handicapper — the game will be a lot closer than you think. The Colts, however, will squeeze out a win when the Dolphins forget to throw to Ted Ginn.
