“Hello darkness my old friend / I’ve come to…”

Okay, I don’t know if those are the lyrics at all, but I know that it’s all about the sound of silence.

For so many of you, when you’re out on a date or in a new relationship, the sound of silence really bothers you. But in reality, there never really is any silence. You can be standing there looking out at the water on a date, listening to the ocean, and feeling the need to talk, but in reality what’s the issue? If you just stood there and looked into the water together you’re forming a memory, you’re forming a union, and you’re both enjoying nature.

There are so many beautiful sounds that are around you at all times, there’s never really complete silence.

Don’t be afraid of the silence. Enjoy it. And after sitting next to your date in “silence” for 20 minutes, listening to the ocean, look at her and say, “God, that was amazing. I love listening to the ocean; it’s such an amazing, rhythmic, incredible sound.” You can share silence together; you don’t have to be afraid of it.

It’s amazing how we always feel the need to talk, or to fill the airspace with words, or thoughts, or anything. But through silence we actually get deeper in touch with our emotions and we connect back to the Mother Earth; we connect back to the way things really are.

I’m writing this as I’m sitting on Miami Beach listening to the water, listening to the birds, watching the people leave the beach, watching the sun get lower into the sky, checking out the art deco buildings, looking at the way that these lifeguard stands are painted, and just listening to the water and to the sound of the ocean.

It’s that easy. Get peaceful. Learn to enjoy the silence.

Are you living in a place that feels like home?

I want you to look around your house, and I want you to ask yourself: if my dream girl came over today, would this house represent who I am? Is this furniture a statement of who I am? Is the artwork that’s on the wall a statement of who I am?

Is the lawn furniture in the living room a statement of who you are? (Those are for those of you that never really decided to get a couch.) Does your bathroom resemble who you are? Does your bedroom resemble who you are? Do some of you live in a place that you used to live with your ex, and all her stuff is still around because you were too lazy to get rid of it?

Where you live represents very much who you are. Are you living in a neighborhood that represents who you are? Are there enough things to do in your neighborhood that keep you busy? Are there enough people like yourself that you can meet? Is there a market that you go to in your neighborhood that you really enjoy? Does your neighborhood represent who you are?

Does your city represent who you are? Do you enjoy where you live? Are you proud to say you live in that area? Does it represent the lifestyle that you want? Is it the climate that you want? I want you to take a look at where you live today, and I want you to ask yourself: is this where I want to be? Am I around people that I want to meet? Am I living in an area that I’m proud of? Am I living in an area that I really enjoy?

If the answers are too often “no”, then I encourage you to move to an area that inspires answers that are more often “yes”.

Being really happy with where you live and living in a place that really represents who you are as a person, is a big step in meeting like-minded people that you can date and enjoy. So look around your surrounding and ask yourself: do I live in a shantytown with people that I do not connect with or do I live in the place of my dreams? Your choice.

I got a great email today from a friend of mine. In his email, he asked me why I don't drink alcohol.

I got a great email today from a friend of mine. In his email, he asked me why I don’t drink alcohol.

The real reason why I don’t drink alcohol is because the sugar content in it makes my stomach feel funky the next day. I really don’t like to feel funky because one of my favorite things to do is eat.

Also, the temporary buzz I get from alcohol (which is very temporary) isn’t worth how it makes me feel the next day. If I have a glass of wine, I might feel a little more relaxed for about 12 to 14 minutes. That’s about it. The buzz doesn’t really last that long for me.

The taste of wine is good, but not worth the after effects that I experience. That’s the only reason I don’t drink.

It’s interesting though. There are a lot of people who do drink alcohol, and a lot of people whose personality totally change when they do. Last night we witnessed the annoying change of personality due to booze.

We live on the beach near the fireworks show and all night all we heard was loud drunk obnoxious people who could not handle there booze. They screamed and yelled like a pack of wild 5 year olds on a sugar high.

They lost all concept of manners and this drunken stupor not only sounded awful but you know really is not much fun.

You know how there is the Surgeon General’s warning on packs of cigarettes advising you that smoking is dangerous to your health? Well I’ve always thought there should be a warning label on bottles of booze that says this: “Warning: Consumption of this substance may turn you into an annoying, loud, obnoxious asshole.”

So here’s a tip for all of you who drink . . .

If the day after you drink people tell you that you were really rude, loud or obnoxious the night before, then I think you should stop drinking booze. Remember, you only have one chance to make a first impression.

You may think that you need alcohol to loosen you up when you go to a party. If drinking alcohol turns you into a loud, annoying and obnoxious drunkard, though, then everyone at that party who sees you act that way will think that is what you are like all the time. Even if you are the sweetest and most amazing person otherwise, people will label you loud and obnoxious if that is how they first see you acting.

So how do you get when you drink? I know some people who have a drink, and you’d never know it. My best friend can have ten drinks and talk to everyone in the room, and no one would suspect he’s had a lot to drink.

I’ve met other people who have only one or two drinks, though, and that turns them into a totally different person. Another friend of mine used to have three or four drinks, and Mongo would come out. He’d start drooling a little bit. His words would slur. He became a totally different person.

So start asking your friends how you act when you’re drinking alcohol. Alcohol unfortunately tends to give a lot of people temporary Alzheimer’s where they forget if they were loud, obnoxious and being an asshole.

So it’s time you started looking into your drinking, and finding out what type of person you become when you drink. If you become that annoying person when you drink, you may be turning off a lot of people without realizing it.

It’s funny. Here we are in the middle of winter, and I have so many guys who want to know about how to meet women at the beach.

I recently had someone who came in from Australia to work with me, and of course the conversation was all about how to meet women at the beach (since it’s the middle of summer there). Then there are other guys who will be traveling to Mexico, Florida or the Caribbean for vacation or spring break. All of these guys will be wondering how to meet people on the beach.

The beach is a blast. To me, it has all the best props you could possibly have.

One of the things we used to do in the Bootcamps is to go to the beach and build sand castles. I’d put the guys right near the water just like when you were a kid, and had them build sand castles.

Then when a woman would come over in our direction, I would turn to her and say “You know, we could use a woman’s finishing touch. We need a little help on the interior right now. I just don’t really know where to put the furniture.” We would just have fun and get the women to laugh.

Then I might say, “Come in here. Let me show you the master suite.” This is so they will actually bend down and look at the sand castle.

Most women will then say something like this: “Oh my God, that’s a beautiful master suite. I would put put this shell in the middle here, and put that pebble over there…I would also want to go with a different color palette – too much gray.” There are so many ways to have fun with this.

Another thing you can do to meet people at the beach is to say to someone standing near the water’s edge, “I’ll race you in.” Many women will respond and say something like, “No, it’s too cold.”

At that point, you want to challenge her. Say something like, “Are you a chicken? You’re afraid to go in the water? You are standing here in the hot sun, but you won’t go in the water? Come on, let’s go.” You make it a game. You have fun.

Another thing I always used to do to meet people at the beach is to bring a Frisbee and a ball. When a woman would walk towards me, I’d throw the ball in the air, look at them and say “Catch!”

She’ll catch the ball and then throw it back to you. Then you can say, “Why do you throw like a girl? Didn’t your father ever teach you not to throw like a girl? Come on, you can throw better than that!” Once again, challenge her and have fun.

That’s what it is all about when you’re at the beach. People go to the beach to have a good time, to relax and to swim.

So these are all great ways you can engage people in conversation and activities at the beach. If they’re having fun with you, the conversation immediately becomes a lot easier.

I’ve been going to an acupuncturist to help with my lower back pain. I went yesterday and, right as I was LEAVING, it happened . . . I sneezed! I don’t know what was behind that sneeze, but right after it happened my back went out totally.

So now here I am on this beautiful Memorial Day weekend, layed out and miserable in about as much back pain as I can ever remember experiencing. I have so much pain in my right hip that I can’t put any pressure on my leg, so when I do get up and walk I end up looking like a cross between Cro-Magnum Man and one of the Sleezestack people from the new Land Of The Lost movie.

Anyway, laying here indoors on this beautiful holiday weekend has me thinking about summer and summer days. It’s the Saturday of Memorial Weekend, the unofficial beginning to Summer. It’s the weekend you get to glimpse all the great stuff you’re going to get to do all summer, and all the stuff you haven’t been able to do while you were suffering through that long Winter.

It also tends to make you think back on all the great summers you’ve had in your life, and all the great things you used to do that make Summer so much fun. I’ve talked about this before, but there are so many great things we all used to do on summer days.

People are always asking me about what makes for a great summer date. Do you know what the best summer dates are? You already do! Do something that you did when you were a kid.

I was thinking about some fun things I did as a kid. One of my favorites was that that we used to go in our backyard, pitch a tent and have a sleepover in the tent. Another favorite of mine was taking a pail and shovel to the beach and building sand castles.

Then there were the summer holiday festivities that were always so great. Watching 4th of July fireworks was always a highlight. Even better was bringing your own fireworks and setting them off with your friends.

Playing games with neighborhood kids — whether it was playing Ring, tag or a game of football – was always a blast. All the great barbecues where you’d have hot dogs and hamburgers off the grill was another of my favorite parts of every summer. Taking a great nighttime bike ride was always a great end to the day as well.

So now, on this Memorial Day weekend, why don’t you think about everything you used to enjoy doing in the summer as a kid. Think about how much fun summer was as a kid — running around, riding your bike and playing outside all day . . . until the streetlights came on signaling that it was time to come home.

Start thinking about all these great kid things you used to enjoy doing so much in the summer, and then start incorporating them into your adult life. Now that you’ve heard mine, why don’t you tell us some of your favorite summer memories.

What is your favorite summer memory as a kid?
What was your favorite thing to do in the summer as a kid?
What was your favorite summer time date when you were in high school?
What is your favorite high school date in the summer time or in college?

Let’s go back in time a little bit again, and let’s have some fun with Summer Days. It will hopefully help me take my mind off this pain I’m feeling today!

Enjoy the beginning of your Memorial Day weekend, and happy unofficial start of summer to you.

I think I’m smelling a theme here. Saturday we were full of bullshit, yesterday we had an ‘ass on,’ and today I’m off to get my physical (and I think we’re all well aware of what will happen there!)

The Discovery Channel has Shark Week. Is this going to be “Ass Week” here? Is the week before Memorial Day going to annually be “Ass Week?” If you really think about it, it already is.

Women are in the gym working on their ass and trying to get it ready for bikini season. Men are in the gym checking out all the women’s asses. Women are also going to be going out shopping for an outfit for all the Memorial Day barbecues going on, and they will all be asking their friends “Does my ass look fat in this?”

So now I think that from this year forward, the week before Memorial Day will be “Ass Week” on the blog. In keeping with this new tradition, tomorrow I will have a podcast all about how not to be an ass when you’re out meeting women.

Also, if you want a nice preview of “Ass Week,” check out this great ass-related blog from times past:

With June Around the corner and I am sure some of you have to endure a wedding or two, lets talk about the ultimate wedding gift to every couple I know getting married. You’ll never guess what it is.

I go to a sex toy shop and put together what I call “The Lover’s Package.” I get them the best G-spot stimulator/vibrator, the best clitoral ring, outfits to wear, handcuffs, silk handkerchiefs to tie each other up…

You and I both know that after a long time with someone, sex may need some creativity.

Not only that, but this is the only wedding present that they’re ever going to remember!

I give this gift to every single person that is getting married. I’ll spend $100 or $150 and get them some stuff that they will actually use!

What an amazing day so far.

Do you know what the definition of an amazing day is?

What an amazing day so far.

Do you know what the definition of an amazing day is?

An amazing day is when you wake up past your alarm, which I did this morning.

It was an amazing morning because I woke up next to the woman that I love and then took Daphne for a walk on the beach. I am going to head back to the beach and do some cardio then off to buy a new beach cruiser bike.
What else am i going to do.

I have some errands to run and then tonight I am taking my girl to her favorite place to eat.

Its a Saturday and I am going to appreciate and enjoy every moment. I am going to engage people and enjoy conversations with strangers. I am going to ignore the blackberry and be 100% present where am it each step of the way.

It’s all about taking every single moment and appreciating it.

That’s the definition of a beautiful day: being able to appreciate every little thing around you. Appreciating every visual stimulus around you – from beautiful women to great friends to amazing trees, the ocean, everything! It’s about really taking it all in.

When you’re out there in your world, do you really take it all in? Do you take in every little bit of every single day? Do you really appreciate it and stay present in the moment?

You knew there was a lesson in this blog somewhere and the lesson is this: go out there and take in every little thing.

Count the stars in the sky. Look at the trees on the street. Take a look at the water that is around you. Look at the color of the sky. Look at everything that is around you.

Become observant in everything in your life. The more observant you become, the more that you’ll have to talk to people about. The more you can talk to people, the stronger your connections with them will be and the less time you will be stuck in your head.

Todays video is all about how to look your best on your amazing days.

As I was reading a comment from Mike on yesterday’s blog, I realized something. Men just don’t really talk about how they feel very much.

I really don’t share things like this with you guys too often, but I want to tell you that every morning I wake up and I thank the universe. I thank the world for letting me be a part of it. I’m really appreciative of all the things in my life.

Every morning when I walk Daphne on the beach, it gives me a moment to reflect. It’s funny how you reflect in the morning when you’re so tired, but I do it every morning. I stand on the beach and think about how life is so great.

I think how happy my dog is as I watch her run, hang out and play on the beach. I look at the water and I watch the waves break. I look toward Malibu and the Venice pier, and I see the mountains and the pier, and all I can think is how the morning is so beautiful.

I think about my girlfriend downstairs in our room getting ready for work, and I thank the universe for putting me together with her. I thank her for the love that we share. Every morning I thank the universe for everyone who is in my life.

Now as I’m sitting in my office writing this blog looking at the view from my office of the mountains and the ocean, I think of the Louis Armstrong song “What A Wonderful World” . . . because it really is wonderful. Every day I wake up and I thank the universe for allowing me to be a part of this incredible journey called life.

For what are all of you thankful every day? Do you wake up feeling positive? Do you wake up really embracing life? Do you wake up thanking the universe? If you do, amazing things will happen to you every single day.

Concentrate on the good. Thank the world for being the amazing place it is every day. Do these things, and you’ll see everything change in your life.

I am going to end this blog from a quote from a friend of mine.

As Wayne Dyer always says.

“When you change the way you look at things the things you look at change”

Todays video is for the women readers. Do you want to know just how simple it is to get men to approach you? Not the annoying men but the right kind of men.

It’s the 4th of July – Woohoo! By David Wygant

There’s something about holidays that bring out the worst in people. Now don’t read this and think I’m some sour, crusty old man who is a Grinch and who steals people’s pumpkins at Halloween. I need to let you know, however, that in terms of a social opportunity I think holidays are for amateurs.

Everybody gears up for three days out of the year: Halloween, New Year’s Eve and The 4th of July. The drunken women who are counting down “5 … 4 … 3 … 2 … 1 …” are the same drunken women who are going “Woo Hoo!” when the fireworks go off on The 4th of July, and they are the same drunken women who dress up in the hooker outfits for Halloween to tease all the men (and who you will see throwing up in the corner into a big plastic pumpkin!)

Holidays are a blast: hanging out with friends, barbecuing, sucking down a few beers, getting corn stuck in your teeth, and eating some low-quality hamburger meat. But searching for and thinking that a magical party on The 4th of July is going to yield you the social results that have evaded you the rest of the year is a crock of shit! The 4th of July is just one day. The expectations on holidays never equal the results.

In order to create real fireworks in your life, you need to be working on your flirting skills every day. Even if you are at the coolest party on The 4th of July, you’re still bringing your lack of social skills with you. There’s no magic pill in order to meet the opposite sex, you have to work on those skills every single day.

For those of you that hooked up on The 4th of July – Congratulations! For the rest of you, you need to realize that you better start learning how to flirt and how to meet people every single day. Otherwise, come Halloween you’re going to be the one puking into that plastic pumpkin.
