What you're talking about here David has nothing to do with people who "make it" through turns of luck or fate ... or about folks who succeed quickly or "overnight." It's the MINDSET of people that they should have success without BEING PREPARED to put in the necessary work and effort to get it. It is an "instant gratification" mindset ... but it's also an entitlement mindset. When you coach people, David, I would imagine that some pick up what you teach amazingly fast (I think you've mentioned Yakub making quite an amazing transformation when he came to your bootcamp) while others have to work a little harder at it to get to that same place. The common denominator, though, is that they all are ready to put in whatever amount of work is necessary to reach their goal. Not only that, but people who reach amazing goals and success have been prepared to FAIL along the way - and won't quit when they do. That is what I take from what you're saying .... I know you're a hard working man and you encourage people to work hard.. all the time! That's why it's a little funny that it said so on your previous layout of this site :) Great blog! Some people are always jelaous of other people's success because we only get a sneak peek of it! Somehow we think that they get there easily.. Now I have to be honest here and say that I used to look up to those who were known for their great work.. especially those who are my age! I felt like I was being lazy and doing nothing.. But now I realize that everything comes with time.. and patience, and HARD work! I've always worked hard, and envied those who got their success faster.. :( (Obviously they have advantages, such as contacts through parents.. etc etc) Another thing which amuses me is: why are actors always the standard of common "success"??? They're just acting in front of camera! Think about it, you probably have a talent of your own.. playing music, singing, drawing, writing etc.. You do it passionately.. What separates you from the other talented celebritites, who do what they are passionate about!? Fame. They're known to you...They have audience.. They are appreciated by thousands of people for their talents.. What do we want? Fame, appreciation from people we don't know? Hmm.. What is success to you? To me it used to be the kind of "success" (you know, success = fame) that they have.. I don't consider that success any longer. We all do something that is amazing!! We live in society catered to shortcut seeking people. Lottery tickets, talentless reality tv stars, mindless daily stimulation in front of our instant feel good tv sets. It's what people think they want and something that very few realize they actually end up suffering from. I guess the moral here is that nobody is cut from a different clothe than you. There are so many people who not only don't want to have to work for anything, but even worse feel they should not have to work for anything. I am happy for those who have luck and achieve success quickly.
