Being coolAs you know, I dictate blogs while I’m driving. I love multitasking when I can. So I’m driving through Amagansett, with my friend John and I went the wrong way and now we’re lost. Yeah I know in today’s modern world all we needed to do was talk to Siri and she could have guided us.  Unfortunately, in this part of Eastern Long Island, cell phone service is… let’s just say… not very good. In fact it’s terrible.

So we were driving along and what should have been a 7-minute drive to the beach turned into a 45-minute drive through the country.  Neither one of us lost our cool.  We didn’t curse out technology. We didn’t get upset.  We actually enjoyed every single bit of it.  Because we remained cool, and John said to me… “I love this. I never get to go in a car.  It’s so beautiful to see these houses.”

Which brings us to the overall message of this blog…

What being cool really means. Being cool means never losing your cool.  When you lose your cool, you’re telling the world that you’re a frustrated toddler. Have you ever watched a toddler lose their cool?  Oh… it’s so much fun. Toddlers lose their cool every day.  Everything is so emotional to a toddler. Toddlers have so much trouble dealing with anything.  You tell a toddler that you’re not going to do something and they lose their cool.

As an adult, we should never lose our cool.  If you’re out on a date, the woman cuts you off, and you lose your cool. Guess what that’s telling her?

It’s telling her you can’t handle life. A cool person takes everything as it comes, takes everything in stride. When you take everything in stride, life becomes a lot more mellow, a lot more interesting, a lot calmer and a lot more satisfying.

It’s satisfying just to enjoy your day, and it says a lot about you.  Being cool means, you seize every single opportunity as it comes.  Everything is an opportunity.  Even if you’re lost driving through the country, a cool person would just enjoy the experience.  The drive through the country is something that we all need to enjoy a lot more.

Stop losing your cool.  Start enjoying yourself a lot more and stop being such a child.

Don’t lose your cool folks, because cool people just let things ride.  As I’m writing this, I realize I missed the turn to the beach again.  Am I annoyed?  Not really.  I’m just enjoying the drive and the moment, and the moment is pretty damn cool, because every moment is a great moment to explore and to see life!
