David, I really HATE to call you out on today's podcast but (it's what I just wrote on the other blog, but I thought it fitting here as well): After some long hard internet research into this puzzle, I’ve come to the conclusion that John is, in fact, correct. It’s a really weird phenomenon, the odd scarcity of single women that's happening. And it only happens in Cincinnati, where John lives–it’s got something to do with the gravitational pull of the earth and magnetic forces and stuff. Cincinnati, metropolitan population 2.1 million, is in fact completely lacking in single women. It’s actually a well-known fact that all of the 1 MILLION or so Cincinnati females are either underage, in a relationship, or married by their 18th birthday. Did you know that women in Cincinnati almost never break up with their boyfriends? It's true. And when they do, they basically go into hiding while they are single for no more than 24 hours, at which point they immediately find a rich/handsome guy who they are immediately committed to and are once again not single! In fact, only rich and handsome men in Cincinnati are in relationships. John, maybe you should consider moving here to D.C. and hang with me. It’s about 1/3 the size of Cincinnati, but somehow I happen to meet amazing beautiful single women every day I go out. Odd ;)

Build a foundation and definitely increase your network. Why not just make friends with the not so single women you come across? They have friends and they have friends! Build an abundance and sooner or later you'll have way too many women to choose from, trust me :P don't worry about the scarring! Just have somehing really cool to talk about regarding it. I had a good laugh while listening to the podcast. Scarcity mentality transcends in all parts of your life, not just with women. What you believe will manifest itself in the real world. I admit that I myself have scarcity mentallity sometimes. But I tell myself it does not matter. There is more than one way to get to Rome and there are plenty of other fish in the sea. At the end of the day, I define me, not others.

However, somewhere along the line you'll learn that it goes beyond the physical and women look for what's going on on the inside. Naturally, I agree wholeheartedly (and am curious to see if John will reply on here). It's amazing how people don't realize that all you have to do is change your mentality to change your life around, even if you don't change anything else. Not to say you shouldn't, of course, as you're going to have to. Admittedly, I'm still pretty young (turning 21 next week), but I still used to have the scarcity mentality. The funny thing is how things don't really change much when you get older compared to when you're younger when it comes to how things work. I was terrible with women and am still in the process of learning and gaining confidence, but in only about a year I went from never being able to even talk to a woman I didn't know to making random conversations with people all the time. With much less anxiety than I used to have, and is becoming less and less prevalent every day. In fact, I'll even be having my first girlfriend soon most likely. Doing things I never had the confidence for before. Now here's the point of all this: I'm not any richer than I was nor am I any more attractive. I look the same and I still have next to no money. So how would I have more success? Because it's like David said, none of that matters. It's all about attitude and mentality. In fact, I have a friend who is even more broke than I am and amazing with women. It's pretty interesting.

So I would suggest not learning on developing your skills with women but to do whatever you can do to open your heart and when that happens everything else will take care of itself automatically. Did John say young women or there was a shortage of women over 30 that did not have on a wedding ring. With so much emphasis on age is no wonder there are so many wonderful women who gave up on finding men geared toward the 20 somethings. I gave up on finding one around age 28 when I realized that for the most part... after a certain age men just have a hard time with their attention span and what amazes me is that I am still holding to my hetero beliefs and as a strong woman willing to live and die alone because I have realized the contrary to popular belief, men are not center of the universe.

Funny how women’s only reply to a man having trouble attracting women is to lower his standards, He must be looking for the Playmate of the Month, when it is in fact women’s standards that prevent women from finding good men. I’ve also come to understand that modern women believe that any woman that doesn’t look like Rosanne is a super model and out of the league of any man who isn’t Ryan Gosling. A tall, rich guy with social status is never going to settle down, even for a model. So you can go ahead and throw out any expectation you have of locking one down. Love the podcast David. Having an 'abundance mentality' is crucial to having success with women. It makes interacting with women easier because you don't care if she doesn't like you because there are so many other women out there that will. By adjusting your mindset that 'talking to this woman is the be all end all' and instead adopting the mentality that she is one of many women whom I could get alone with, you become more yourself. Just because one woman who doesn't 'get' or 'like' you doesn't put you in a category of 'no one will like me'....just that one person! Just keep talking to women...and more women will follow. No height really isn't an issue... but at the time I was surrounded by people that influenced my thoughts that size matters. Well at your age and the things you describe... you really just need to get your shit together. David also talks about falling in love with yourself and just doing the things you love. Don't go out there looking harder, women sense that and will run. Do the things you enjoy doing and the women will follow. Why carry a bucket of water to your campsite when you can just set up camp by a flowing river?

Ok I am from Columbus Ohio, about an hour away and have visited Cincinnati more than once and met a few, one or two, single woman and I do not even live there so if I can do it they are there. these are excuses and excuses are like butt holes we all have them and they all stink. I find it amazing how much people misjudge themselves and stay in their bubble. They stay in their own world and focus on themselves as John said. But John realize that you are doing the same thing. On a vacation to Chicago, I stopped in a restaurant downtown, and sat at the bar, ordered a drink, and said hello to the cute blonde next to me. She said hi, asked me if I was dining alone, and I said yes, and she asked if I would like to join her. We had a great conversation, shared some cheesecake, and had a great night. It then hit me that I just did in one night in Chicago, what I haven't been able to do in 10 YEARS, in cincy. Well, she was from Nashville, so nothing came out of it. I have tried to do the same thing here, but no luck. So yeah, I have developed a scarcity mentality, but I'm trying to change, really, I'm trying. Just a side note, I have really bad acne scarring, from when I was younger, so I am really self conscious about my appearance. I know that doesn't help. I work very hard to try and stay in shape, and dress well, but it still bothers me. Anyway, thanks for the inspiring podcast, I needed a good pep talk, and I hope you recieve this response. I've bought some of your products, a bootcamp is out of my price range for now, I wish I could attend, I would love someone to prove me wrong! Again, sorry about the cellphone response, but I felt the need to respond now. And, sorry about the rant.

Mary Beth, I have tried online dating, and have a profile running on several sites. I never get any responses or answers to my emails. I'm not very good at it. I really want to handle being able to meet women in person. I used to bartend here in cincy, and met women all the time. That was over 10 yrs ago tho,, and it was easy because I didn't need an opener. plus I was younger, and better looking then. I can't do that anymore because of my current job I've been at for the last 10 years. So I do sit home alone many nights, as all of my friends are married, or engaged. Most women on dating sites seem to be looking for someone college educated though. I have a very good job, and make pretty good money, (not rich) , but no college. that seems to turn women away. Not that I'm making excuses, I'm just answering your suggestion. I often wonder WHY I never get any responses, just trying to think of reasons why.

Donnie - Cadillac ranch is ok, I like either Bartinis, or Passage nightclub better. Yeah lots of hot women, but most are very young. I used to work at clubs downtown, and dated lots of cute girls, but I'm too old for young party chicks. (i'm 38) I need to get better at daygame. I've never gotten a date just out during the day. That is when you meet the quality women who are better geared toward a relationship. That is why I'm on David's blog instead of the nighttime "pua", sarging blogs. David is much better geared toward daytime. I just never see single women over 25 (i'll go down to 25), out in the daytime, but i'll try to look harder.

That's funny, I'm 5'7 too, but I never saw my height as a problem. But my skin Really bothers me. My dermatologist says it's pretty permanent, not much I can do without plastic surgery, which is REALLY expensive. Maybe after I get the last of the debt paid off, will be a while tho.

I never allow myself to wallow in scarcity thinking... even though I often find myself feeling that way. I'm frustrated that I often revert to that kind of thinking, but I'm happy that I can at least recognize it and take constructive action. What I do is set a goal for myself of talking to 5 people every day. In this way, I remind myself that its within my power to create abundant opportunities. Any advice for someone like me? It's a daily challenge to embrace an abundant attitude. It sometimes takes a lot of effort to fight off scarcity thinking. I believe in abundance and I want to *own* it balls to bones.

Great comments guys! John, thanks for being a good sport about this, too--it's great that you stayed active in the comments section and spoke your mind! I feel ya on the singles scene in Cincinnati, but in all honesty, I've lived all over the country and just about everybody who's single in every city has something to complain about their own singles scene. When we're single and frustrated with being single, it's so easy to find other reasons to blame it on--we only see that the problem MUST be from the around us and not with ourselves. Every guy in SF is either gay or has no job. There are no attractive people anywhere in DC. In NYC, everyone just wants to hook up and nobody is ready to settle down. Forget about meeting women in LA--they're too fake and only interested in guys with money in the industry. Etc, etc, etc. The grass really is greener on any singles pasture except our own. I think anyone living in a major city should be happy that they are living in a place where there are literally HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of single people out there who could be potential partners. It's just a matter of getting yourself out there and meeting them. It's funny, a lot of times the more you HAVE, the more you have to complain about.

Great podcast D. I am truly sympathetic to John's plight. I too sometimes catch myself in scarcity mentality. I wanted to meet a girl today and I went to the mall and it was DEAD. No one I hadn't already explored. I pressed on and went to the grocery store and voila I hit the goldmine and met a magnificent girl. It takes effort and David's observance openers and from there they see your confidence. If I would have given up at the mall I would have gone home empty and frustrated. Keep learning and improving yourself John so that when one finally comes by you will be man enough to seize the moment and capture her attention. Just because she's with a guy doesn't mean that you can't make friends with her. A lot of us guys get stuck in the "hunter" mentality when we should really just be kicking back and "fishing". Have fun with it and just let go. Hell, I'll even make friends with married women... truth of the matter is that almost everyone has a good amount of friends and at least a good number of their friends are single. If they're too young for your preference, make friends anyway... they may have older female friends. Make friends with guys you meet as they may have female friends who have single female friends. Be like Forrest Gump and just go with it... you'll never know what you're gonna git... and that's what makes life Fun!

David, I'm glad that I could be an inspiration for your blog. I know the intention was to attack me in your podcast, but this is a topic I really wanted to discuss. It's hard thinking there just isn't anyone left for you. I know the thinking is that I'm a homebody who doesn't go out and look. Nothing can be further from the truth. I go out, scan the area, look for single prospects, and end up saying "hmm,, too young, too young,,, taken,, taken,, with a guy,, married,,, WAY too young,,, hmm." Funny thing is, people tell me all the time I should have NO problem. I Dress sharp, I stay in shape, I drive a nice car, ride a very cool motorcycle, but still, no one ever seems interested. I'm funny, I banter with people , I smile all the time, but still, Nothing. I usually think, "It must be my looks, or maybe my job." (I have a job that pays good money, around 70K, but it is a blue collar job, and not one women consider "cool". I don't want to say what that is, I'm still trying to stay somewhat annonymous here). Ok, going on another rant, lol. I'm just glad we got to discuss this topic in depth.

Looks like I'm a little late for this discussion but I've got a little something that may help... If you find you're frustrated with something then maybe take your search for someone down a gear. What I mean is take things back to basics and start talking to say 5 women a day randomly. Regardless if they're too young/old, married/engaged...that'll help you get some confidence back. Plus that gives you the opportunity to expand your social network a little which could lead a girl introducing you to some single friends.

I recently had a reader tell me that "the clock is ticking" and that with every passing day "my options decrease exponentially." I didn't know what to say. Not because I believed her. In fact, at 42, I've finally hit a point where I'm enjoying dating and meeting new men. Her comment was so jarring because it made me realize how fear-based so many singles have become. With my biological clock silenced, and my craving for "ever after" sated a bit, I finally feel available emotionally. I've started to enjoying a man for who he is in the moment and stopped trying to gauge his relationship potential based on a one dimensional profile or two dates. But so many people still date with this scarcity mentality. When I hear people say there are no good men or women out there, I realize that sort of thinking for a place of fear. It's an excuse we use to date unavailable men and women or shut down totally.

John there's a Mexican cream called cicraticure, buy it and try it, it really works wonders. I too have scars and finally I'm about to finish my problem with acne. Try it give it a time, either way you'll see a big difference in a week or so. I also used to taught like you about the acne problem, I'm not good at doing conversations to strangers, but I've recently finished my bachelors, I had terrible acne, and girls didn't mind it. I have had beautiful girls wanting to go out with me, but my problem is I'm picky and sometimes I don't know why, I can't let them know I like them too. I guess my problem is far worse. But I'll learn from David's products, I'm buy the whats your excuse.

thanks Rafael, I'll keep an eye out for that product. My dermatologist said there really isn't anything going to work except maybe laser treatments, (which are very expensive), and maybe some other types of plastic surgery. Like I said before, other people say no one even notices, but I know it is there, and it is usually the first thing on my mind when a woman looks at me. The forst thing I think is "she must be thinking "EWWW." That really hurts the confidence, but i'm working in it.

John, I am 3 years older than my brother. We never really thought that we looked that much alike, but as we got older, more and more people started asking us if we were twins. When I would go visit him at college, girls would come give me hugs out of the blue, and I would have never met them before in my life. While I'd like to think I'm just that attractive, they really just thought I was my brother. To this day, we still have a hard time accepting how similar we look. Why? Because we look for the differences in each other's faces. We find every little piece of evidence that we might not look the same, and that's what we fill our thoughts with. Others look at us and see the whole picture. The same goes for your acne scars. They're so prominent to you because that's what you focus on. You look for acne scars when you look in the mirror, so that's what you see. Others look at you as a whole person and a whole face and are barely going to notice them as a part of noticing everything about your bone structure, your hair, your teeth, your nose, your eyes, your stature, your clothes, your smile, etc.

John, David, coaches, and everyone on this blog. WOW. how inspiring it is to read all of your comments. My input is this. Its so simple and cliche but it's the best advice I've ever had, and that is to just BE yourself. Yeah no shit right? but seriously. John mentions many external things (the acne, the job, the car/motorcycle), but none of that matters to people, men and women. David has another blog about penis size...and that too doesn't matter. It's not "yourself" that needs to be cool, its simply "being" yourself that will make your cool. I shouldn't say 'simply' because being yourself takes a shit load of courage. The vulnerability is tremendous but having that confidence and courage to live who you truly are will get you living freely, unapologetically, and with a wife who is happy in her own skin too.. So on that note, who gives a flying fuck that your 38 and single...embrace that part of you, (and all parts of you) and let that energy radiate onto others.

John, I have to chuckle when you use your age (38) as a hurdle. I'm 10 years older than you, and my funnest experiences in bars -- and the dating scene -- have been in my 40s, because I know how to make things happen now. Unlike in my 20s, when I'd hang back and HOPE good things would happen, as though the universe might suddenly take pity and drop a gorgeous, compatible woman in my lap. I have acne scars, too, and got laser treatments several years ago. They work. So if the scars bother you that much, spend the two or three grand. Take Latin and swing dance classes. Go to food and wine events. Join online meetups. These groups are great for meeting women and like-minded people. There are meetups for hobbies, spirituality and even ones to bring single people together. Every city has meetups. Even Cincinnati.

John, I'm the other guy that David talks about; the one who stands at the corner of the bar with not much to say -- just a simple smile and a nod. But you know what? I like it. I'll take out a pen and grab a small pile of cocktail napkins and start drawing people in the bar -- mostly the bar tenders, since they're too busy to look up from mixing drinks. I love to draw. I'll study what makes a person unique and try to capture that in a caricature. It''s fun, and it helps me to hone the skills. There's always that one girl who will look over and say, "Hey, that's pretty good!" Of couse, by that time they're so drunk, anything looks good. But that's when the conversations start! The point is to stop trying. As David says, do what you love and the women will follow. Peace.

This has been VERY insightful. I'm 21 years old and currently an engineering major, and unfortunately I fit the "engineering" type more than I'd like to admit. As you can probably imagine, there aren't a ton of women in my classes, and a lot of times, I've found myself in this exact mindset. it looks like all the good single women have been taken, and all the low life loser women are still out there. who wants garbage like them, especially that most of them have a very rotten attitude problem and are very nasty today. they need to read a book on how to talk to men, then this might make them much better educated. many of the women out there now are just not worth meeting at all. that is why so many good straight men like us are single today. at least years ago, women were certainly much more educated and they were a lot easier to meet.

i wish we had the women like we had years ago, when they were very committed to their men. i am a straight man that had been married at one time myself, before she cheated on me. it seems that we have so much more cheating women out there now than ever before, and finding one for me is very hard now. this is the reason why the divorce rate is so out of control today, and most of them are caused by these type of women.

Try upstate New York. I know several nice, mature single women, including me. As for acne scars, try washing your face every other day or so with polyester, circular, cosmetic exfoliating pads. Target sells them. It helped my scars. And try to develop a "party piece." In the "old days," when people had to entertain each other, people would learn a joke, a story, a song, a poem, something to entertain their friends with. If you have a few interesting things up your sleeve, it might help you feel more confident.

If you try to meet people with that negative attitude, you are dooming yourself to failure. You're closing your mind off and puling the blinds shut between you and anyone who doesn't instantly meet your expectations.
