Lost On The Island

How was everyone’s weekend?

MIne was as always awesome. Spent it with my girl and my black lab Daphne.

Had a funny talk with a friend the other day and knowing how much you guys love short blogs on a Monday, I thought I would share this with you.

This may be short but it will stimulate your brain to start the week.

Would you rather be an island that everyone could not wait to travel to and be a part of.

Or

Would you rather be a boat that chases the waves and is always looking for the next fun ride?

I will share with you what this says about the way you meet the opposite sex tomorrow. And for those of you who are Lost fans you know this island that I am talking about does not have any others, men with eyeliner or time travel.

Now get writing!!!

For those of you who are Lost fans….thought you might get a kick out of this.

  1. Tough choice. Im always a fan of the “what would you rather be/have” questions. If I had to choose one, Id lean towards being the island that eveyone wants to go to and be apart of. It shows that everyone wants to be around me and that I have this great aspect that people want to experience for themselves. I give off this fun and positive energy. Being the boat is intriguing, but who knows when that next fun ride will be. Could be a week, a day, an hour, whenever. I guess the same could be said about the island, when will the people travel to and be apart of it…all depends on your viewpoint I guess. Im sticking with my choice, being the island interests me more. Im curious in seeing what your response will be tomorrow about this.

  2. david – this sounds like one of those “inkblot” tests you take if you want to become a federal agent or something ;)

well for me it’s the first one. i would be happy joining the island full of happy folks. not interested in always chasing the next wave – maybe more “exciting” at times, but i think the “grass is always greener” stuff would get old pretty quick.

  3. Dude this is a no-brainer!

Give me the exciting ride, the big waves, and new adventures. Just cause everyone wants to go to that island doesn’t mean it’s the best place to be. could be totally f^)$g boring!

  4. That all depends. Can we find out what everyone is so excited about on this island?

  5. I think I’d rather be the island too. It’s kind of how I am naturally anyway, and I know that David is all about being natural. I have a tendency to make myself fun when I’m out and people tend to gravitate to me. I don’t tend to go out so much though. I should do that more, I think. But it’s tough, I’m trying to save for grad school. My problem is, while people seem to enjoy being with me when I’m out, I have a great deal of trouble “escalating” relationships with women. I get feared of consequences and losing girls as friends by making a move which isn’t reciprocated. Not because I am feared of my ego getting burned, I don’t really do ego, it’s because I like to have female friends and feel like if I do something to “escalate” that’s not reciprocated, it’ll make interactions with us awkward in the future.

But back to the point in hand, I would like to be the fun island that people come to. I like to have people come to me!

  6. David,

My honest response? Why can’t we have both?

  7. if my boyfriend was coming with me, id choose the island. love to spend the rest of eternity in paradise with him.

back when i was single, hmmm not sure….

  8. Tough call David. If the chicks were ugly on the island, no thanks I’ll take the boat. And even if they weren’t, how many of them are on the island – might be better to be able to keep my options open

  9. David,

I’d like to know the answer to Nate’s question first :)

But without knowing that, and not sure why, but my instinct says to pick the island :)

  10. Well David, I’m going to assuming this supposedly awesome island would HAVE a boat, so I’ll take the island and plan on taking a few amazing boatrides every week!

  11. Stupid question!!

It’s like those would you rather die by a snake strangling you and eating your head or 100 poisonous spiders attacking you and killing you kind of questions.

If such a scenario had more than a snowballs chance in hell of actually happening then this would be worth taking a second to consider.

  12. i think id rather be the boat that’s trying to catch the next big ride. (but i think that’s because i’m addicted to surfing!)

  13. who said they didn’t like your usual type of monday blogs

i vote to bring them back!

  14. i’d like to be the island, because it’s just so much easier when everything comes to you instead of you chasing after the adventure!

  15. i will like to be the boat for sure, it’s just that much easier to go out and find the fun instead of waiting for it!

  16. i think i prefer the island, but that’s because i am a pretty lazy guy lol

  17. i am the island fo sho, i let the play come to me!

  18. haha Reynold i surf too and i absolutely agree with you. there’s absolutely nothing better than finding the next big ride to shred the gnar!

  19. i’ve always prefer to let things come to me instead of chasing after it. like David said, you want to start attracting instead of chasing. so i will rather be the island for sure.

  20. i pick the boat! because there’s just so much more to experience out there!

  21. i will pick the island too! it’s just easier to let the fun come than to go after it! there are plenty of fun to go around anyway!

  22. i pick the boat as well. because i will always know where i’m cruisin my boat, but i won’t know what type of things will be brought onto the island.

  23. Hey Daniel, i pick the boat too, and i know exactly what you’re saying!

Even if you don’t know what type of adventure will be out there you will still know the general direction you’re going…

  24. i will pick the island as well! it’s so much easier to just chill and let the good times come!!!

  25. I pick the island its all about the hot women that will show up on vacation david

  26. I pick the island too, good things always come to me!

  27. Dude, i pick the boat too, it just sounds so much more exciting with the unknown adventures out there!

  28. Tim, right on brother i know what you mean by shredding the gnar! i pick the boat too!

  29. i pick the island, have something to do with growing up in Indonesia…. i’ve always enjoyed the tourist!

  30. i pick the boat too, it’s always better to cruise by some party instead of throwing the party at your own pad! because you don’t have to clean up!

  31. The boat too! lol Ben what you said was so true! i hate cleaning up : )

  32. Wow, lots of people on the blog today! and yeah me three on i hate clean up too!……

and Tim, cross your fingers for some new swells soon! I am all about the swells so who knows where i will end up.

  33. i pick the island, even though i don’t like cleaning up. but i’d rather be the host than the guest : )

  34. i pick the island too, i’m just too lazy to travel all over the place!

  35. i pick the boat, i’ve always like to travel more!

  36. Riley, i prefer traveling too! so i pick the boat.

  37. Island all the way….and screw John Locke LOst sucks this year!!!

  38. island too

  39. boat, i’m the traveling type of guy!

  40. the island will be my choice. just sounds so much more relaxing…..

  41. i pick the island too!

  42. I pick the island too, I don’t like moving around….

  43. Did some folks miss the verb? It was a choice between BEING the island versus BEING the boat – not visiting the island or having the boat….

  44. K

I think some people have some issues with reading carefully but as long as they get the point.

  45. Guys

It is being the Island or Being the Boat. Not visiting each place or thing.

  46. Tim

    Stupid question.

I am trying to get you to think and not judge. You react and did not reach outside your comfort zone.

    Tomorrow you will see why.

  47. Joe

You get it…..you are on the right track but go even deeper into this. Its about fun but its also about other things as well.

  48. Doug

Who said that there were women on the island. You presumed that there were?

Its you being the island and the island is all about what it pulls in.

You will see tomorrow what i am talking about,

  49. Matt

You are on the right track in your thought process. Keep thinking at that level and you will get where I am going with this.

  50. To all the Rest

Go deeper into this….we are not talking about fantasy here….we are talking about how you really are and how you conduct yourself.

I am an island and like Lost my island can move.

  51. Knowing David’s teachings, I think I understand the metaphor here.

Personally I’d like to be the island, but I’m afraid I still act like the boat way more than I would like to.

  52. David –

I would be on the island myself. Your boat choice sounds like a metaphor for that “bigger, better mentality” that too many people have that keep them from really being present in the moment and finding something extraordinary that might be right in front of them.

The island to me is a metaphor for the lifestyle you live and that I want to live.

My choice is hands down the island :)

  53. Who wouldn’t want to be a destination where others want to be? Seems like being the boat makes for an awfully lonely ride through life – new riders, sure, but a revolving door of contacts for which you never get beyond the surface contact and you know that they will be gone very soon. Eventually, the riders will choose to ride a newer model – probably to get to that island – and you (the boat) will end up on the scrap heap. In those terms, I’d rather be “in-demand” and “enjoyed” rather than just being “utilized” until a hotter ride comes along.

  54. I think I’m the boat right now but I don’t think I’d like to be an island. I don’t want just everybody to be part of me.

  55. justadjustit March 9, 2009 at 7:07 pm 56

I’m choosing the island. I’d rather attract than chase : )

  56. Hey guys use your imagination….stranded on an island with a person who throws knives and knows things how about just looking for away off the island. If I was stranded with that group of guys I believe I would be the nun for awhile and hoped my ship came in. But that one that was over confidant thought he was going to be laid man fell for it hook line and trap.

  57. The blonde reminds me of my youngest daughter. She complains too much. To really look at it I don’t know which I would betray. I would probably be the silent one and ask if everyone was okay. I mainly like to help people and my curiousity would be up for I would probably look around my surroundings and admire the scenery but I don’t know if I wanted to be rescued. This skit may prove to be very interesting…..Rowan and Martin’s Laugh In.

  58. I meant to say portray look at the podcast real closely which character are you?

  59. Coach Yakub March 9, 2009 at 9:47 pm 60

very cool the island sounds good.

  60. Coach Kimberly March 9, 2009 at 10:10 pm 61

Love this! Sorry to be noncommital but i’d be both the island and the boat. Each has its benefits :)

  61. At the age of 25, I’m DEFINITELY a boat. There is no question in my mind. I thirst for wild adventures, unforgettable fun and new experiences. I seek all that, which one day will allow me to transform myself into that island. :)

  62. Hey, I just decided to stop chasing women and start to attract them! So I’ll be the island.

Let them dream about me all day (am night) long… about walking barefeet at my white beaches, about the scent of exotic fruits and spices, about the warm sun on their skin, the taste of salt on their lips, the gentle breeze in their hair….

  63. Hey, I just decided to stop chasing women and start to attract them! So I’ll be the island.

( Sorry for the typos… my fingers are faster than my brain and my brain is wired in another language…. ;-) )

I’d rather be an island that everyone could not wait to travel to and be a part of. If you attract people, your work is half done.

  65. I want to be the island… b/c I get to create something meaningful… through the kind of island I’d be.

If you are a boat, there’s only so much you can create.

  66. DanTheOriginal March 10, 2009 at 7:24 pm 67

I am not sure about the point of this and have not spent too much reading the responses…

What is “Lost”? I think it’s a TV show…Why the fascination with TV shows and celebrities??

Anyway, I would love to own the fucking island and boat and charge you all every time you get on them:-)

  67. I am a self contained island, having everything inside to attract the right tradewinds, but occasionally you have to catch that tradewind and let it lead you to new adventures and islands.

We all have to take turns being the island everyone is attracted to!

In the end we will have created a continent of islands that no longer need to travel by boat to seek new adventures!
