The other day I was trying to call my mom on Skype.

I wanted to show her something.

I’ve talked to my mom on Skype plenty of times before.

I’ve had video calls with my mom on Skype.

I must have talked to my mom on Skype probably 20 times, just to give you a little background information.

But yet I called her on Skype this time and it rang 10 times.  She finally picked up.  I hear her talking and she says, “I don’t hear you.”

Meanwhile, I’m talking she’s answering me, yet she ‘doesn’t hear me.’

Then she says, “I don’t know how to set up my microphone.”

So I tell her:

“I can hear you, mom.”

And then she starts talking to me, even though she said she can’t hear me.  Acknowledging the fact that she hears me.

This goes on for five painful minutes before I finally decide to hang up.

My mother is part of the technologically impaired.  Even though my mother has done things over and over again—like Skype, or setting up an answering machine—it seems like she forgets and can’t do it.

You can give her the generational thing, but I think that’s a cop out.  I’ve been on airplanes sitting next to guys in their 70s who are basically on their Blackberry and iPhone, using their voicemail on one and texting somebody on the other.

So it’s got nothing to do with generational things. My mother just wants to be the victim of being technologically impaired.

My mother likes to play the damsel in distress.  There are people that don’t like to figure things out on their own.

They would prefer to play the damsel in distress.

My mother has done this her whole life.  She knows how to work Skype, come on, it’s real simple.  My brother showed her three times.  She has actually called me on Skype on her own.  But yet, sometimes she just likes to play the damsel in distress or technologically impaired.

So what does this have to do with dating?  What did the blog of The Exaggerator have to do with dating? It gives you more things to talk about.  More funny things to say.  More funny things to share with somebody.

That’s all it’s about.  It’s about sharing; it’s about really understanding human behavior, your own behavior, and the behavior of others.

. . .

You know any technologically impaired people out there?

I’m sure you do.  Are you one?
