Are you tired of going out with your friends on a Friday night and seeing the glow of iPhone light on their face as you’re trying to talk to them?

Are you tired of going out with people and them barely listening to you as they’re searching through Facebook or texting someone who’s not even there?

cell phones friday nightHave I got an idea for you, an idea that’s going to blow your friends away and make everybody present. It’s going to put everyone’s cell phone addiction right out on the table, literally.

First, I want to take you back in time a little bit.

Remember when we were kids. We got allowances.

You know, we’d get paid for doing chores around the house.

My chore was emptying the dishwasher every single night. I remember I’d always curse out my mother under my breath for giving me that job. For some reason or another, I hated emptying the dishwasher. Putting things away drove me nuts.

Your Job When Going Out

I’ve got a job for all of you.

No one likes to have money taken out of their pockets, so here’s what I want you to do on Friday nights. We’re going to call it the modern day version of liar’s poker. Remember liar’s poker, where you went out and you played poker off of the numbers on a dollar bill?

Here’s something all of you can do when you go out on a Friday night so you connect deeper with your friends. So you have serendipitous moments.

That’s right. Aren’t we out on a Friday night to actually meet people? Not to sit there and swipe or look at Facebook or text people that aren’t there?

So here’s what you do. You all put your cell phones on the table.

And the first one who looks at their cell phone during dinner pays for dinner.

It’s going to be the same way you get punished as a kid because you never want your allowance taken away. And the fact of the matter is, when you go out with five or six people and everybody is eating and drinking, nobody wants to be the one to pay $300 for the entire tab.

So that’s going to be the motivator. Think about how it’s going to change the way you go out.

Change How You Communicate on a Friday Night

Think about all the great things that are going to happen by playing this game.

You’re actually going to meet people. What a novel idea that is, actually talking to people.

You’re going to learn about the things that are going on in your friends’ lives because I guarantee you that if you have your cell phone there and you look at it three to five times during dinner, you’re missing something very important about what your friend is trying to share with you.

And the list goes on and on and on.

I want you to play this game, and I want you to tell me what happens. I want you to tell me who looked at their cell phone first. I know that because we’ve been trained like Pavlovian dogs, it’s going to be very difficult at first for you and your friends to not look at your cell phones. But I believe in you!

Give it a whirl and let me know what happens.
