I’m A Hostage

Happy Sunday to everyone – and I hope you are all enjoying this Memorial Day holiday weekend!

As for me . . . It’s Day 2 of being a prisoner in my own home (as I am completely layed up with this back problem). Now, I am NOT someone who enjoys being shut down, and forced to sit around resting and watching television.

I actually only watch about an hour of television a week. So after being forced to sit and watch about seven hours of television yesterday, I have to tell you that I do not understand people who do that voluntarily. I don’t know how they don’t lose their mind!

Tonight, my girlfriend Sonja escapes me, and is heading to the Cayman Islands for a week. This leaves me with the pleasure of being annoyed and miserable as I continue to suffer through this forced television watching rest alone . . . unless you count having Daphne here of course. In truth, though, Daphne is co-dependent and can’t do much at all (so she won’t be of much help).

So I will continue to work on making it through Day 2 as the fun continues! To keep me from really going insane and having nothing to do but watch television, tell me how all of you are spending your Memorial Day weekends, and whether you tried any of our “kid summer activities” we talked about yesterday.

Everyone enjoy your Sunday!

  1. David, sorry to hear about your back. Being forced to stare at a screen all day is not fun. But if you have to do that, you should consider looking up TEDTalks on Google. You might find it a lot better than mindless television, and they often have HD downloads available for QuickTime.

  2. Television has been a horrible plague in my life! I hate the idea of watching it, but find myself doing so all the time anyway…

  3. My Memorial Day weekend I spent at work talking to people and getting to know the regulars oh Dave take care of the hip and back and get it checked out if you have too. I pray all goes well with you and yours.

  4. Hey David,

I can relate to your experience, except mine was worse. About a year ago, my back pain became gradually worse in the course of 3 days. It began with mild pain and on the 3rd day, I was crawling from room to room. I could barely stand on my own and any motion i made, whether is was moving my toe or sneezing, affected my lower back. I was in complete pain. I was bedridden for an entire day, without television and thankfully I had someone to care for me. I felt like I was completely paralyzed from the waist down.

I was unable to walk, let alone stand on my own 2 feet. Sitting up right took me 10 minutes with assistance and I had to tough it out when it came to going from lying down to sitting position, and then sitting position to standing position. Once in standing position, I needed my helper to get in front so I could place my arms around her so she can be my support to get to the bathroom.

Oh, it was pain. Oh yeah, and I was only 30. Since then, I’ve not had it return. The doctors discovered I had a pinched nerve and ordered accupunture sessions for me. The accupuncturist also had a spinal decompression machine and a year later, I seem to be fine. I also began working out since then and that seems to have helped a lot.

Is your problem a recurring one? Have you tried spinal decompression?

  5. Hey David!

Hope your backs feeling a bit better today. Blew an exam last friday which went terrible, but it can only get better! Can only imagine its far worse being stuck indoors in amazing weather than the shitty weather over here

After ploughing through lots of red dwarf, wish I appreciated TV shows on demand a little less and all that a bit less and took advantage of the freedom I have while at uni.

Gonna get my (weird hair, that hasnt been cut since I saw you last september!) cut and have a great conversation with a hopefully hot hairdresser! Gonna get it all cut short because I fancy a change and im bored of all the weird looks in London whenever I head there!

    Hope you get better soon
    Pete

  6. PS I’ll let you know how it goes and try and bring a smile on your face if you end up reading this!!

Without you and Adam, I’d shuffle in awkwardly, murmur a few words now and then, but its thanks to you guys that I’m free-er inside and can more readily express myself without becoming over-embarassed or shy

    Gonna do you proud man!

after a glorious day full of soccer and showing off my incredible grilling skills (cough) to a bunch of friends in our house yesterday today I am escaping for a full day techno music at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival like I do every year since we started this several years ago. Bliss!

    Sorry about your back Dave!

It’s time like these, when you are bed-ridden, is when you can appreciate so much of what you have. I’ve been sick and in different situations before where I couldn’t go anywhere or do anything and it made me realize how important being healthy is and appreciate the love around me. On that note, Khiem and I are here to help…let us know!

Glad to hear so many getting out and enjoying the weekend and be happy you can!
