Hunter,
My dad would never have gone to the actual race. He wasn't a flashy kind of guy. It was way after the race that we went. What the hell is off road race attire anyway? Is that hootchie clothes? string bikini tops and frayed jean shorts where your ass sticks out? Last time I went off roading I wore a cute little sweater and a pair of old 501s.

Hunter - LOL. Okay.....good to know.
BUT, I will say that my roads are still populated more heavily with trucks then the LA area. Here's my challenge...should you ever get the opportunity to make back East.....try traveling at the same time as you indicate on Rte 11S/Harrisburg Pike heading towards Gettysburg, PA. Just drive through the little city of Carlisle. That's all, just that little city. 18 Wheelers are all you see. LOL. This is probably due to the fact that, somehow, the little city Carlisle, PA., has become the number 1 Trucking Hub in the US for the entire Eastern seaboard. Probably b/c major roads leading towards New York and down to Virginia, DC, all they way down to FL, all seem to converge at Carlisle.

Having lived here and in Los Angeles, I can say that although there are trucks on LA roads, I don't ever remember the volumn of them equaling what is seen here. I guess you'd have to see it/experience it to believe it.

But, while I deal with an onslaught of 18 wheelers, you guys gotta deal with the "motorcycle lane". Which, well, no thank you. You can have that. LOL. We do not have that here. :)

to BriaDear,

..hhhmmmh, you most likely won't see semi-trailers rolling on the 405 fwy, in LA. That, doesn't really go anywhere,... residential areas....If you are ready to wear a smog mask, take the 110 Harbor Fwy, to San Pedro, to the end, make a U, return on the 710 Fwy, coming out of Long Beach, to the I-5, heading north, try that about 4 pm on a weekday.......bring plenty of listening material, Ipod, etc....many times, they run in packs, I think they call those...convoys.....

Hunter,
My dad had a 70 jeep, a 69 IH, and my uncle had a wyllis, I spent every vacation in the southwest somewhere camping. One year spring vacation was a tour over the Baja 500 route for that year. Spent just over a week and I think I was in a real bathroom once. When I got home my mother was aghast....I didn't get into dirt bikes until I met the ex. He bought me a little used honda enduro bike for my birthday. I never had to be forced. Dad's stuff was just way more fun than mom's stuff. You can only do so many things with knitting needles.
