Childhood TV Crushes

Childhood TV Crushes
By David Wygant

Do you remember being a kid, and sitting around with a bunch of your friends debating about whether you would rather sleep with Mary Ann or Ginger from Gilligan’s Island (or listening to boys have such a discussion if you’re a woman)? My opinion varied – some days Ginger just absolutely got to me, while others I just felt that Mary Ann was just as cute as can be in those little shorts she wore.

The thing about this Gilligan’s Island debate, is that no one ever did a version for the girls. You never heard anyone ask girls whether they would rather sleep with The Skipper or Professor Roy Hinkley (“The Professor”). You certainly couldn’t have sex with Mr. Howell. So I wonder whether women would choose to sleep with The Skipper or The Professor?

What I always found funny about Gilligan’s Island, was that The Howells, Ginger and Mary Ann all seemed to have brought a wardrobe of clothes while The Skipper, The Professor and Gilligan always wore the same outfit. I know The Skipper always had on the same blue shirt and light pants. I don’t think I ever saw The Professor wearing anything but those same chinos and white oxford. Gilligan of course sported that same orange shirt, white pants and white hat.

Women are so fashion conscious, so I wonder whether they would be turned on more by The Skipper, Gilligan or The Professor. I’d love to know the answer to this, because as men we have always debated the Ginger/Mary Ann question.

I know I also used to think that Samantha on Bewitched was really cute. I remember as a little kid I used to wish I could shrink myself to six inches tall so I could fit in a bottle and have sex with Jeannie (from I Dream of Jeannie).

I thought that nothing could be cooler than being six inches tall and going at it in that bottle, especially because that bottle always seemed so erotic the way it was decorated with all those pillows and cushions. I mean, how great would sex be in that bottle?! Did women ever think about having sex with Major Nelson, Major Healey, or even with Dr. Bellows?

How about TV action shows? Did you have a crush on anyone in one of those shows as a kid?

I know I loved the character Jamie Sommers in The Bionic Woman, but did women feel that way about the character Steve Austin in The Six Million Dollar Man? Did it turn women on in that episode of The Six Million Dollar Man when Steve Austin fought Big Foot (who was played by Andre the Giant)?

What about Dwayne F. Schneider from One Day At A Time? Did any of you women have have a crush on him? I know I was turned on by Valerie Bertinelli’s character on that show.

I wonder whether any women’s tv crushes ran a bit more toward the bizarre, and they wanted to hit it with Tattoo from Fantasy Island. Fantasy Island was just a really creepy show altogether. Think about some of the things they did to people on Fantasy Island. There was always some sort of evil fantasy where Mr. Roarke was torturing people. It was definitely a bizarre show.

The Love Boat had quite a big cast and a number of potential crushes. While most men probably fantasized about cruise director Julie McCoy, I’m not sure if the women would have been more turned on by Doc, Isaac, Gopher . . . or even Captain Stubbing.

What about Happy Days? There weren’t too many women characters on that show on whom men could have a crush, but I wonder whether women liked Richie, Potsie, Ralph Malph or if they all had the hots for Fonzie. Was Fonzie really that cool? I mean, if he snapped his fingers, would you jump and run into his arms?

Then there was Laverne & Shirley. Were there any men who found them attractive? What did Lenny and Squiggy say every time they walked in Laverne and Shirley’s door? I could never remember that.

So, what was your favorite tv show as a kid, and on which character(s) did you have the biggest crush? Which ones did you think were cute? With which characters did you just want to jump in the sack, and with which ones did you have date fantasies?

Most of my tv examples have been ones from when I was a kid, but how about all of you who are a bit younger than me. For those of you who were born in the 70s and 80s (and, God forbid, even the 90s!), for which tv characters did you have the hots?

You know, did you have a crush on Arnold (“What you talkin’ about Willis?”) Jackson from Diff’rent Strokes? Maybe you liked his siblings Willis or Kimberly? What about Michael J. Fox’s Alex P. Keaton character on Family Ties? How about Cosby kids Theo or Denise from The Cosby Show? Even more recent, how about the all-time favorite guy crush on Alyssa Milano playing Samantha Micelli on Who’s The Boss?

So I want to hear from all of you now. When you were a kid, with whom would did you dream of meeting and having a little fling? Who was your favorite childhood tv crush?

Todays Video is all about how to meet women at the beach, lake, pool or park this summer.

Who knows maybe you will even meet a woman on the Love Boat!!

  1. David – Fantastic blog!! You have perfectly captured the kid’s look at tv crushes :)

First I agree with you about the creepy aspect of Fantasy Island … and I can honestly say I never had any warm & fuzzy feelings for Tattoo. There were plenty of tv crushes from my youth that I still look back at fondly – some I thought were “cute” and some I would have definitely loved to have gotten hot ‘n heavy with if the opportunity had ever presented itself. :)

I didn’t have any Gilligan’s Island crushes, but if I were to choose one of those fellas it would hands-down be The Professor. He was kinda geeky and cute, but had a good sense of humor too …

On Laverne & Shirley, I always thought Carmine “The Big Ragu” Ragussa was very cute – very Gene Kelly :)

My teenage crushes included Mr. Alex P. Keaton from Family Ties — but my “they are so hot” tv crushes were definitely Lee Horsley playing Matt Houston, Joe Penny playing Jake Styles in Jake & The Fatman, and Costas Mandylor playing Kenny Lacos in Picket Fences. :)

Really fun blog today David! :)

  2. This blog is hillarious!!

I am a bit embarrased to admit this, but I had a big crush (and a life size poster in my bedroom) of Shawn Cassidy a la “The Hardy Boys”

Then, I don’t know any woman of my generation who didn’t have a little thing for Rick Springfield playing Dr. Noah Drake on General Hospital… :)

  3. man David, i don’t know any of these names you’re putting up, they’re all too old!
but i remember i used to watch smallville back in high school (like tv serie about young super man) and i always thought the girl who act lana lane was cute as hell. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0471036/ heres a link to her pics!

  4. I actually don’t remember my childhood TV crushes. There were so many of them that now… they are just a stream of random faces in my head.

Rey…. Lana Lang is HOT! I don’t know any guy who didn’t watch Smallville for the sheer viewing pleasure of Kristen Kreuk strutting her stuff.

  5. LOL, Reynold, I was just about to say the same thing ;)
But then again, these shows souns like they’ve been broadcasted on American television only, cause I cannot remember anything like that shown on Norwegian television..

I had a crush on Clark Kent (from the original TV Show “Lois and Clark”)
I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of a show called “Narnia”? My brother and I used to watch it every morning as kids.. I had a little crush on the oldest brother in that show, can’t remember what his name was on that show..

    Cute blog! :)

  8. Oops! I meant Nancy Drew a la Pamela Sue Martin :)

  9. Caroline…. Thats so true! LOL! I know i’m aging myself!! You are on your game!

  10. Two more 80s crushes ….

Christopher Atkins when he was on Dallas (not really in Blue Lagoon), and Jack Wagner as “Frisco” on General Hospital. :)

  11. I don’t really remember my childhood TV crushes either… but I actually do remember over hearing a few girls debating the Ginger/Mary Ann type question… only it was between a few of the male co-stars on that one show on channel 5 called “Charmed.” I never watched it, so couldn’t tell you any of the names, but it was a pretty interesting debate.

  12. Ginger is like a hot, but to much maint.. Like a XJ Jaguar

  13. Love your blog David.

I had a lot of TV/movie crushes. A LOT. In fact, I still have some. I’ll spare you the list, and give you my alltime favourite: Dana Scully (X-Files)

  14. DanTheOriginal July 9, 2008 at 4:45 pm 14

Amber Lynn…I was in love with her, thanks to my big brother’s magazine:-)

  15. that was one sexy vid you linked jim : ), it made me touch myself in david’s office!

    jk lol

p.s JustMe is there any hot Norwegian television stars?

  16. Bridgette Wilson-Sampras, who was the teacher on Billy Madison was gorgeous and still is.

Also back in the day of the Power Rangers, Amy Jo Johnson who acted as the pink ranger was definitely cute.

  17. PAST: Jeannie, from I Dream of Jeannie. She was gorgeous.

TODAY: Kate (Evangeline Lilly) from Lost… I would do things to her, that are probaly not legal in some states!

    :)

  18. J Dude

Kate from Lost is a good one………share what illegal things:)

  19. Mike

Bridgette Wilson had that sexy girl next door look. Girl next door now that was a great movie

  20. Rens

Dana Scully had that sophisticated sex appeal!!

  21. Jim

I am all about low maintenance women….so lets skip Ginger.

  22. Anna

You and many other women were all about Jack Wagner, Now can you tell me the song that he sang that was a hit?

  23. Gracie

Carmine Ragussa…what ever happened to him?

  24. DW,

For now, I’ll keep it somewhat legal w “Kate”, so people don’t know I’m a naughty boy. For starters, I want her sweaty before I get my hands on her. I dig athletic women…

  25. J dude

I like the way she runs through the jungle……and the way she battled the others.

She is hot I will agree

  26. David, David, David …. Anyone who was truly a fan of the Frisco/Felicia love story bought the ’45 and then the ALBUM!!! :) So … of course the song you’re referring to is “All I Need” :) But … to show that indeed that album was in my collection, do you remember that they played his second (sort of) hit at the Frisco/Felicia wedding “Lady Of My Heart” :)

  27. David, I’m sorry to tell you that after reading your blog and fondly remembering our fair dance instructor “The Big Ragu,” that I googled him …. and let’s say you wouldn’t really recognize him right away!!! He went from a head full of curls to a head without much hair (except his beard!) to … hair transplants!!!!

    Check this out!!!

  28. Although, let me stand up for my choices by playing the very 80′s intro for Jake and the Fatman … Joe Penny is still really hot in his 50′s now BTW :)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qy4qi7GQhD0

  29. Gracie

Wow he is a las vegas singer performer now….so funny!!

  30. Anna

Good call I was wondering if you knew that song. One of my all time fav cheesy songs among many.

Tonight I was on my way home and got to listen to American top 40 the best 100 songs of the 70s.

It was on XM and never found out who was number 1

  31. It kinda ruins it for you, doesn’t it?! ;)

  32. GRacie

I used to watch that show

TV will never be the same

  33. I was a child of the 80′s, so I’ve had a thing for Pierce Brosnan going back to Remington Steele :)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAqvgKatDfc

  34. Yes it does….I also know that one day i will be a vegas hit:(

    Some dating show or something

  35. It definitely is NOT the same!!! I agree … TV has changed dramatically — and there many fewer “classic” shows on anymore :)

  36. Morgan

What is this you tube night or what.Everyone is making me watch bad clips from bad shows!!!

  37. Aww David — No way you will be Vegas material … Reality TV?! Hmmmm …. maybe ;)

  38. Well LOst is a classic but a one watch.

YOu can watch some of these bad shows over and over again

  39. David, how else can we remind everyone of the goodness of these “classics?!” ;)

  40. David, LOST is a fantastic show ….

And it’s so funny you mention Fantasy Island, because they are again showing reruns of it on cable …. Mr. Roarke just never goes away, does he?

  41. I want vegas baby….actually really do not like vegas at all it was one of the worst of the 70s/ 80s shows.

    dan tanna

  42. David — FUNNY Blog! I have to say I’m surprised that we haven’t heard any mention of either Heather Locklear in her TJ Hooker Days (with William Shatner co-starring), or about any of the Facts of Life girls. Even though I understand she’s turned out to be a bit of a nut, that Blair from Facts of Life was always pretty cute …

  43. Mr Rorke is still the best

  44. Bobby

She was one of the best of them…..she looked so great in those little shorts.

I found it very painful to watch that show though

  45. Robert Urich was somewhat cute in that show …. but yeah … Vegas was never my favorite … I did have a thing for those Duke boys on the Dukes of Hazard though :)

Also, how about Tom Selleck in Magnum PI? :)

  46. Tom selleck was cool…..and i was just in hawaii as well.

I would love to be a private eye in hawaii.

  47. and why were there so many private eyes in the 80s

  48. That’s so true!!! My true 80′s loves, Joe Penny playing Jake Styles AND Lee Horsley playing Matt Houston I think were both PI’s!! :) Hmmmm ….

Then there was Hart to Hart … and Remington Steele …. and was Michael (cheese chunk David Hasslehoff) and Kitt on Night Rider a PI too?

  49. I don’t know David …. You know that Magnum PI always wore his DETROIT TIGERS baseball hat — think you could give up being a Mets fan? ;)

  50. I will always be a met fan but i have to admit….i did buy a tigers hat when that show was on

  51. Hey everyone — these comments have been a blast to read!!

Well, no one has named the #1 80′s heartthrob yet — of course I’m referring to Mr. Don Johnson in Miami Vice!! :)

  52. Who was that girl who played on “The Fall Guy” with Lee Majors? She was pretty HOT

  53. I was always a Charlie’s Angels fan … more Farah Fawcett that the other ones (and I still have that poster with her in that red bathing suit too).

  54. I’m going for my morning jog, but had to come to this hilarious blog to see what else was posted…

Magnum PI… too funny. I’m 6’3″ and I remember trying to look like him in College (wearing shorts & Hawaiian shirts). But no world class mustache, nor Red Ferrrari for me though!

  55. I often don’t have time to read my DW blog. Sometimes I spend a bunch of time catching up. Sorry this is so late but… Happy Birthday David. My parents went to Hawaii and both loved it. Dad said I should make time to go and suggested I go as a single guy. Is he right, is it good for single guys in your opinion too?

I can’t believe nobody has mentioned the HOTTIE WITH THE BEST LEGS EVER. I don’t remember her name but the cable show was called SILK STALKINGS or Silk Stockings? The male actor was a also a good looking guy whom I can’t remember but I’m sure a lot of the ladies liked him too.

I remember that they also had a very short lived (but seperate TV shows) his was another police detective show too and it lasted a little longer than hers. I don’t remember what kind of tv show hers was.

WOW DID SHE EVER HAVE HOT LEGS. Anyone remeber this show Silk St… it was in the early 90′s What has happened to her now? Anyone got a link to pics w/ those hot legs??

  56. It was a little before my time but I saw reruns of Batman with Julie Newmar as catwoman and thought she was sexy.

  57. WOW!
I was thinking on Steve Austin before you mentioned him. That was one hell of a crush…
but then I also had a crush on Michel Landon in Bonanza (I was 8 while the show was on in my country) and Christopher Atkins in Blue Lagoon (I was 12).

But my mayor movie crush was Harrison Ford on Star Wars… I even have a picture of me with my hair styled like Princess Leah’s weir braids… oh! kids….

  58. From television there was Kadeem Hardison from A Different World for me, and from the movies I ABSOLUTELY LOVED Arnold Schwarzenegger, I still do lol.

  59. I have always had this crush on “John Bender” from “The Breakfast Club”. I still have “the hots” for Judd Nelson even though I am only 22 years of age. I know how pathetic it is, But I don’t see anything wrong with having a crush. Even if it is extremely unrealistic!

  60. With my friends the debate was between Penny and Judy from Lost In Space. My choice was Penny. Her smile made me melt.

Another favorite was Teri Garr from Star Trek. She was only in one episode but really made an impression.

    Love your site. Thanks!

  61. wow..you reminded me a huge crush i had and that was Richard Dean Anderson…yeah the MacGyver guy! i was so crazy with him..imaginary dates and trips to USA just to see him…i even wrote letters to him saying “why i am so young and i have no money to come to USA to see you?”…god..now that i think about it i am a bit embarassed! lol
but even though i am 26 i still think that he was so handsome..and the character so attractive..i just couldnt resist!
