I’m going to start out this Sunday’s blog with a confession (even though I’m not a church-goer as many of you know…)

I had every intention of getting this blog out to you on Friday - but between moving and being in constant meetings with my team brainstorming, creating and … let’s say gently critiquing each other’s ideas for the early 2009 launch of my new community site that I’m designing for my members — I don’t know if I’m coming or going half the time!

So my apologies on the tardiness of this blog, but hopefully ‘better late than never’ applies here …

Do you really wish that there were a shortcut in life for everything?

The other day someone told me that he wanted to get into my business after he listened to me talk about how I struggled for the first few years of my career. He told me he wanted to get into the business, and I asked him why.

He answered, “because I need to make money.” This is hardly the business to get into if you want to make money. You’re a nobody. What’s your platform? What do you stand for? Who are you?

That’s the funny thing about it – so many of us are all about instant gratification. You need to make money right away? Are you that short on cash? Well, get a job! Rob a bank!

Practice Your Storytelling By David Wygant

Do you know what is great? Practicing your storytelling. Women are attracted – actually, people in general are attracted to people who are charismatic and can tell a good story.

I know I’ve written blogs about telling stories before, but I want to go even deeper into this today. There are so many emotions that you can convey to people through stories. They tell something about your personality.

When you are there and you are talking to somebody, and they are in quiet mode – sometimes we’re in quiet mode, sometimes we’re in talkative mode – but let’s say this person is in quiet mode. All of a sudden, you start doing the talking – you’d better be interesting! All of us are interesting because we’ve all done things in our lives – but the difference is in the way we share that story.

Be a Man Part Two By David Wygant

About two weeks ago you read a blog about being a man, and what being a man is all about. Of course, now it’s another one of those late nights in my house – which, by the way, I’m looking for a bigger house now, because part of being a man is realizing that you have friends at your house all of the time and you want a playroom. Even though you’re a man, you still like to be a boy, and we tend to hang out so much in my office – I’d love to have a killer den and a guest room.

A lot of guys who take the Bootcamp come and stay with me, clients stay with me, and friends stay with me at my house. My ex-girlfriend Alison said to me the other night that my house is like Camp David. That’s pretty funny – I’m certainly NOT George Bush! – but I wouldn’t mind if my house was actually Camp David.

Great Dates By David Wygant

A lot of people email me all of the time, asking, “what’s a great date? I’m seeing a man or a woman, and I want to take them out on a great date.”

I have a great date idea. You want to do this on a Sunday, and just call it ‘my favorite Sunday’ – I think that every Sunday you need to create a new favorite Sunday.

If you’re by yourself, you need to do things that you really enjoy – take yourself out for a Sunday. Go out, go to a Farmer’s Market, grab some breakfast, talk to some people, and then just have an adventure. Maybe you can go shopping a bit, walk around some stores. If it’s nice out and you live by a lake or a beach, go there.

Go check out some open houses. There are always people around at open houses. Check out what houses are for sale in your neighborhood – or condos in the city, whatever it might be. Go to a bookstore, go to a library. Just take yourself out. Walk around. The weather is nice, so go walk around.

But my favorite thing to do on a Sunday – pick somebody you really want to hang out with on a Sunday, and just say you’re going to have an all-day little kid sleepover.

Become Observant By David Wygant

In order to become more observant, your mindset needs to be this: everything you see you need to look at with a child-like curiosity. Look at everything like you’ve never seen it before.

The way you need to live life is to walk through a neighborhood every single day like you’ve never been there before. Every day you walk through that neighborhood, notice new things. Notice new buildings. Notice the color of the sky. Notice the new trees in springtime. Notice the new buds coming up. Notice everything you can possibly notice.
